1. President Ashraf Ghani left Afghanistan on Sunday after Taliban fighters entered the capital, Kabul, capping their return to power two decades after being forced out by U.S.-led forces. A representative of the Taliban said the group was checking on Ghani’s whereabouts. Some local social media users branded him a “coward” for leaving them in chaos.
2. The Plateau State police command has arrested a total of 20 suspects in connection with the killing of some 25 travellers in Rukuba area of Plateau’s Jos north LGA on Saturday. The Inspector-General of Police (IGP) Usman Baba, on Sunday ordered the immediate deployment of Police Intervention Team to Plateau State to carry out an on-the-spot assessment.
3. The Minister of Labour and Employment, Senator Chris Ngige yesterday, said the FG placed embargo on employment because the economy was not in good shape. The former Anambra State governor spoke on Saturday at his Abuja residence while receiving the Traditional Ruler of Nnewi town, Igwe Kenneth Orizu (III) who paid him a courtesy visit.
4. Unknown gunmen yesterday, attacked a Fulani settlement in Dogon-Ruwa community, Kwali Area Council of the Federal Capital Territory, FCT Abuja, and kidnapped four herders while others were left injured. The Public Relations Officer, PRO, Ardo of Fulani of Gwomani chiefdom, Malam Haruna Gambo, confirmed the incident to newsmen on Sunday evening.
5. About 21 military recruits were killed in an accident in Jigawa State after their vehicle submerged inside water along the Gwaram/basirka road in the state. Police spokesman, ASP Lawan Shiisu Adam confirmed the accident.
6. Governor Babagana Zulum has said the ongoing surrendering of Boko Haram fighters has left the state with two extremely difficult situations. In a statement by his Special Adviser, Isa Gusau, Zulum said the situation required diverse stakeholders including representatives of attacked communities, to come together and critically review the pros, cons and implications of the trend.
7. The People’s Democratic Party (PDP) says the All Progressives Congress (APC) and the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) have commenced “underhand rigging” ahead of 2023. In a statement on Sunday, the National Chairman, Uche Secondus said every indication points to the “unfortunate fact” that President Muhammadu Buhari and the APC are not working towards conducting free and fair elections.
8. The All Progressives Congress (APC)’s candidate, Engineer Ahmed Manir, has been declared winner of the Lere House of Representatives Federal Constituency by-election in Kaduna State. The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC)’s retuning officer, Professor Wada Adamu Attah declared the result on Sunday.
9. Barcelona won their first La Liga match of the post-Lionel Messi era with a 4-2 victory that saw Real Sociedad mount a late rally on Sunday night. Their season-opening match at Camp Nou comes after a drama-filled week that saw club legend, Messi join Paris Saint-Germain on a free transfer.

The Chief Justice of Nigeria (CJN), Justice Ibrahim Muhammad will on Monday swear-in Justice Husseini Baba-Yusuf as the Acting Chief Judge of the High Court of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) and five khadis for the Sharia Court of Appeal, FCT. According to a statement by the media aide to the CJN, Ahuraka Yusuf Isah, the event is scheduled for 11 am at the Supreme Court.
