1. Madam Betinah Benson, mother to the Secretary to Bayelsa State Government (SSG), Rt. Hon. Konbowei Friday Benson, has regained her freedom after spending 31 days in kidnappers’ den. The police spokesman in Bayelsa State, SP Asinim Butswat, confirmed the release.
2. Governor, Abdullahi Umar Ganduje of Kano State yesterday, launched the state’s Community Policing Scheme for Rano Emirate, where Falgore Forest is situated. The governor, during the official launch of the scheme at Doguwa Local Government Area on Sunday, also commissioned a new police station and six vehicles.
3. Fifteen of the remaining 80 kidnapped students of the Bethel Baptist High School, Kaduna have been released by bandits. Confirming their release Sunday morning, the Chairman of the Kaduna State chapter of the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN), Rev. Joseph Hayab, said the 15 students were freed Saturday night.
4. The Police Command in Delta State has arrested seven suspects for alleged armed robbery and unlawful possession of firearms. The acting Public Relations Officer (PPRO) of the command, DSP Bright Edafe, disclosed this in a statement made available to newsmen on Sunday in Warri.
5. Over 300 bandits well armed with sophisticated weapons struck Duba community in Batsari LGA of Katsina State on Saturday killing scores of residents. The remains of the deceased were buried on Sunday.
6. Aggrieved final-year students of Government Secondary School, Tse-Agberagba, Konshisha Local Government Area of Benue State, on Sunday, set the institution ablaze. Witnesses said the students were aggrieved over the failure on the part of the school authorities to validate their registration for the West African Examination Council (WAEC).
7. Governor Okezie Ikpeazu of Abia State yesterday, dispatched a team to evacuate students of Abia origin in Plateau State. In a Statement made available by the Commissioner for Information and Strategy, Chief John Okiyi Kalu, the government said Special Assistant to the governor on Students Affairs, Mr Chibuzo Ndom, is the leader of the delegation to Plateau.
8. One of the abducted lecturers of the Abia State University Uturu, ABSU, Don Chris Afulike of the Department of Mass Communication, has regained his freedom. Public Relations Officer of the institution, Mr Chijioke Nwogu confirmed the release.
9. The Christian Association of Nigeria, CAN, has asked the Federal Government to fix the security challenges bedevilling the nation or admit failure. The umbrella body of Nigerian Christian made the call through its General Secretary, Joseph Daramola, in a statement made available to journalists in Abuja, on Sunday.
10. The ECOWAS Commission has expressed worry over unsustainable practices in global food production. This was stated by Head, Agriculture Division, ECOWAS Commission, Ernest Aubee, during an online presentation on the ‘Importance of Ecological Organic Agriculture Policies in the Transformation of West African Agriculture’, organized by Journalists Go Organic Initiative.
