1. PDP caucus of the House of Representatives yesterday kicked against the alleged move by the President Muhammadu Buhari-led government to use NBC and security agents to stifle press freedom through sanctions and harassment. In a statement issued on Friday, Kingsley Chinda, leader of the caucus condemned the query issued to Channels Tv over interview with Governor Ortom.

2. Unspecified number of the Eastern Security Network, ESN members including one of their leaders have been killed in a gun battle with the operatives of the Imo State Police Command. This was disclosed by the Commissioner of Police, Imo State command.

3. Former President, Olusegun Obasanjo on Friday did not mince words about the unity and indissolubility of Nigeria when he said the country that sprawl over 923,768 km² with over 200 million people will continue to exist no matter what happens. He spoke during the Book Launch and 85th Birthday of Eminence Prelate Sunday Mbang of the Methodist Church Nigeria which was held at the Admiralty Centre, Naval Dockyard, Victoria Island, Lagos State.

4. Bandits have released 32 of the remaining 63 abducted students of Bethel Baptist High School in Damishi, Kaduna state. The Kaduna CAN chairman told TheCable that “32 of the students have been released this evening, remaining 31 with the bandits”.

5. Playwright, Professor Wole Soyinka has called on the government of the Republic of Benin to release Yoruba Nation agitator, Sunday Adeyemo, popularly known as Sunday Igboho, to continue his journey. Speaking with journalists in Lagos on Friday during an interactive session, the elder statesman said the secessionist didn’t commit any crime against Nigeria.

6. Governor Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi of Enugu State, in keeping with his earlier directives, on Friday, formally handed over to the Muslim community in Nsukka, two mosques rebuilt by his administration which were hitherto affected following a protest that erupted in the area, late last year.

7. Zamfara State Governor, Bello Matawalle has instructed the military, police and other security agencies to open fire on any overloaded motorcycle that fails to stop for search. The Governor gave the instruction to security agencies when he received the students of College of Agriculture and Animal Science Bakura, who were freed by their abductors on Friday.

8. The Imo State Chapter of the Independent Petroleum Marketers Association, on Friday called off its four days strike. The Spokesperson of the Association, Chimodo Martin, disclosed this to newsmen on Friday in Owerri.

9. The Imo State Police Command on Friday said scores of suspected Eastern Security Network, ESN, an armed group of the Indigenous People of Biafra, IPOB, were killed in a bloody clash at the ESN camp, Akata in Oru East Local Government Area of Imo State. The Imo State Commissioner of Police, Rabiu Hussaini, confirmed this to newsmen in Owerri.

10. Suspected bandits on Friday kidnapped four persons in Zangon Shanu and Unguwar Liman in the Sabon Gari Local Government Area of Zazzau Emirate, Kaduna State. A statement on Friday by the spokesperson, ASP Mohammed Jalige, read: “three male and one female victim were kidnapped.’’
