1. Five months after, the United Arab Emirates (UAE) has lifted the flight ban on Nigerian travellers with effect from Thursday August 5. Emirates announced on its website that eligible travellers from Nigeria and 10 other countries will be allowed to travel to/through the UAE.
2. The crisis rocking the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has taken a worse turn with the resignation of seven national officers of the opposition party. The party’s National Organising Secretary, Colonel Austin Akobundu (retd), confirmed the resignation on Tuesday but did not go into details.
3. Twenty-three persons have been confirmed dead in a diarrhea outbreak across 13 local government areas of Sokoto State. The Commissioner of Health, Dr. Ali Inname, who confirmed the deaths, said 265 people, most of whom reside in rural areas, were so far affected.
4. The Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant General Farouk Yahaya, on Tuesday lamented the increasing cases of sexual abuses in military formations across the country. He spoke at the 2021 Conference of Nigerian Armed Forces Catholic Chaplains holding in Makurdi, Benue State.
5. Mike Ozekhome, Senior advocate of Nigeria (SAN), has said the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) cannot treat Abba Kyari, a Deputy Commissioner of police (DCP), like a common criminal. In an interview on Tuesday, the lawyer said Kyari is safe under the Nigerian law and cannot be just extradited to the US.
6. The Chief Judge of the Federal High Court, Abuja, Justice John Tsoho, on Tuesday issued an order unfreezing the N2.1 billion bank account of the founder of Daar Communications Plc, Chief Raymond Dokpesi. He delivered the judgment after taking arguments from Dokpesi’s lawyer, Kanu Agabi, SAN and counsel to the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), Oluwaleke Atolagbe.
7. Two children and seven adults have been reportedly abducted at Anguwar Kwankwashe in Suleja, Niger State. An eyewitness said the kidnappers invaded some houses and a hotel around 1:35am on Tuesday.
8. From next week, the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) will begin the disbursement of the N30 billion revitalisation fund set aside for them by the Federal Government. Labour and Employment Minister Chris Ngige, who announced this in Abuja yesterday, said the Federal Government deposited the N30 billion with the CBN in January.
9. The apex Igbo socio-cultural organisation, Ohanaeze Ndigbo, has appealed to the members of the Indigenous People of Biafra to rescind the sit-at-home order which is to be observed every Monday. National Publicity Secretary of Ohanaeze, Chief Alex Ogbonnia, made the appeal in an interview on Tuesday.
10. Three more abducted students of the Bethel Baptist High School, Kaduna were said to have escaped from their captors. They were subsequently found by security operatives roaming the forest.
