The Ogun State Police Command on Saturday refuted claims that its tactical team shot an innocent person on the Papalanto/Ilaro road.
The command’s Public Relations Officer (PPRO), DSP Abimbola Oyeyemi, made this known during an interview with newsmen in Ota, NAN reports.
Oyeyemi said the attention of the command was drawn to a misleading report making rounds on the internet that men of the command shot and killed a person on Thursday.
He explained that one of the teams that was conducting a stop and search along Papalanto-Ilaro road, flagged down a Honda Accord car.
“The driver did not stop rather the occupants fired a gunshot at the policemen for which the police fired back.
“The car also sped off and crashed into the bush some distance away from the check point.
“However, the driver of the car who was wounded was arrested, but he died on the way to the hospital, while the other occupants of the car fled into the bush.
“The car was searched by the police team and a locally-made pistol with two cartridges was recovered from the car.
“It is, therefore, sheer mischief on the part of those who took to social media to accuse the teams of killing an innocent person,” he said.
