The occupants of a house razed by fire in Ile Aba, Iwo town in Iwo local government council area of Osun State have blamed the fire services for the level of destruction and the loss of their valuables.
The fire incident which affected a two wing apartment located few metres away from the Customary Court occurred on Wednesday evening in the ancient town.
An eyewitness, Olarenwaju Abdulrahman, stated that the Osun State Fire Service, Iwo was contacted immediately the fire started but they could not get to the scene.
In his words, “After calling, they insisted that there is no water in their tank and that they had no fuel for their fire truck.
“It was after the firefighters based in Iwo couldn’t do anything that we contacted the Abuja headquarters of the Federal Fire Service before the Federal Fire Service, Osogbo swung into action but before they arrived Iwo, the fire has already been quenched.”
Residents complained that this was the second time that the Osun State Fire Service, Iwo would fail in their responsibility to the people of Iwo in 2021, adding that the loss of properties could have been averted if they had not failed to do their primary assignment.
Others lamented that the intervention of the fire fighters was too late because it took more than three hours
before they arrived the house which was already completely razed down.
A development which attracted boos from the residents.
The remote cause of the fire could not be ascertained but power surge was pointed out by residents as being the cause because the fire started few minutes after Ibadan Electricity Distribution Company (IBEDC) restored electricity supply.
