Former Fulham, Tottenham and Liverpool central midfielder, Danny Murphy has revealed one thing Cristiano Ronaldo’s return to Manchester United could hinder.
While other football analysts and pundits believe that Ronaldo’s presence would help Manchester United’s youngsters grow, Murphy believes it would dwarf the development players, such as 19-year-old Mason Greenwood.
He believes that this is the only negative of the return of Ronaldo to Old Trafford after 12 years.
The 36-year-old returned to the club on Tuesday after spending successful years at Real Madrid and Juventus and has been handed the iconic No.7 shirt he wore during his first 6 years at the club.
The former Liverpool midfielder told talkSPORT: “…He [Greenwood] might have to wait a bit longer than we first thought, with Ronaldo’s signing.
“Now with Ronaldo coming in there, which isn’t something that was planned for months.
“It will be at the detriment of some of the other players. Is Cavani going to get enough minutes? Greenwood is 19 so he’ll suck it up.
“That’s the only negative of the signing, the delay of Greenwood playing more minutes in games.
“You learn by playing over and over, not one in three.”
Cristiano Ronaldo won his first ballon d’Or at Old Trafford. He also helped the club to Champions League, Premier League, FA Cup titles, among others.
