Manchester United boss, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has been told to allow Bruno Fernandes continue to take penalties and free-kicks at the club following the return of Cristiano Ronaldo.
Ronaldo’s national teammate, Fernandes is the current penalty taker at Old Trafford and the 36-year-old’s return to Man Utd could see Solskjaer relieve him of the duties.
Paul Parker, a former Premier League manager questioned whether or not Solskjaer has the strength of character to stand up to Ronaldo amid the debate over who should take penalties.
Parker believes Solskjaer should retain faith in Fernandes’s ability from the spot even if it would mean running the risk of upsetting Ronaldo.
He told Eurosport, “The biggest concern for some players and the fans may be if they see Ronaldo leading Ole into some of the decisions.”
Parker said that the manager may want Ronaldo to win the golden boot despite his age.
“As much as his countryman Fernandes takes penalties I’m sure Fernandes enjoys scoring goals and the adulation that comes with it.
“He’s very good with free-kicks in and around the box, too. He hits the target more than Ronaldo does,” he said.
Parker said it would be wrong for Solskjaer to suddenly change how the team has been set in the last 18 months.
