1. The Federal Executive Council presided over by President Muhammadu Buhari has approved the National Policy on Fifth Generation,5G Networks for Nigeria’s digital economy with immediate effect. Minister of Communications and Digital Economy, Prof. Isa Ibrahim Pantami who disclosed the development on Wednesday, said the approval came following the presentation of the implementation of the National Policy to the council.
2. After over two months of incarceration, the Department of State Services, DSS, yesterday, slammed two-count terrorism charges against two aides of the Yoruba nation agitator, Sunday Igboho. The charges were filed against them at the Federal High Court in Abuja.
3. Pensioners in Rivers State on Wednesday carried out a peaceful protest over the non-payment of their gratuities and ten years pension arrears. The angry protesters said since 2012, over 300 of their members have lost their lives due to the government’s non-compliance with its side of the tripartite agreement reached.
4. Three officers of the Delta State Police Command have been shot dead, with their corpses set on fire. The officers attached to Umutu Divisional Police Headquarters, were killed at a checkpoint along the Obeti/Oliogo Road in Ukwuani Local Government Area of the state.
5. Governor Oluwarotimi Akeredolu of Ondo State has blasted the Miyetti Allah Kataul Hore over plans to move against the anti-open grazing law in the state and other parts of the southern region. Akeredolu who is the Chairman of the South West Governors’ Forum and the Coordinator of the Southern Governors’ Forum disclosed in a statement on Wednesday that nothing would make him and other governors rescind their decision.
6. The Federal Inland Revenue Service, in a desperate bid to retain the collection of the Value Added Tax, has written the National Assembly, seeking the inclusion of VAT collection in the exclusive legislative list. The federal tax agency is also requesting the federal lawmakers to approve for it, the establishment of the Federal Revenue Court of Nigeria.
7. As the Nigerian military intensifies its offensive on bandits’ camps in Zamfara State, the armed men have been fleeing into neighboring states for safety. Residents of Dange Shuni Local Government Area of Sokoto State, which borders Zamfara, said that they have seen a large number of gunmen fleeing Zamfara.
8. The Nigeria Police Force headquarters has paraded the killers of Pa Defwan Dariye, the father of former governor of Plateau State Joshua Dariye. The leader of the kidnap gang, Jethro Nguyen, 53, an indigene of Bokos, said he had to hire ten others including some Fulani herders to successfully abduct the old man from his palace and kept him in custody for about ten days before killing him.
9. The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), on Wednesday, directed local and international non-governmental organizations to submit lists of their beneficiaries in Nigeria’s North-East region. The Director, Special Control Unit Against Money Laundering (SCUML) domiciled in the EFCC, Daniel Isei gave the charge at an interactive meeting in Maiduguri, Borno State.
10. Music star, Tuface Idibia, has broken his silence on the row with Annie, his wife. The superstar who has been silent since last week when his wife took to Instagram to accuse him of messing around with Pero Adeniyi, his first baby mama, said though it was bad that a private matter was brought to social media, his family should be allowed to resolve things internally.
