Four persons have reportedly sustained various degrees of injuries as fresh clash erupted on who becomes the Chief Imam of Inisa Central Mosque.

DAILY POST gathered trouble broke out on Friday when the man at the eye of the crisis, Sheik Abdulakeem Muhammadu-Jamiu gained entrance into the mosque to lead Friday Jumat prayers.

Led to the mosque by police personnel for the Friday prayer, it was reported that tension broke out when the congregation sighted Muhammadu-Jimoh entering the Chief Imam’s room leading to the Minbar of the Inisa Central Mosque in preparation to deliver the Jumat Sermon.

Sources revealed that after a hot exchange between the pro and anti Muhammadu-Jimoh supporters, a free for all fight ensued during which four members of the Muslim community who are opposing his choice as Chief Imam sustained injuries.

Muhammadu-Jamiu was also reportedly stoned by an antagonist which led to the smashing of decorative glasses which adorned the Imam’s section of the mosque.

Findings revealed that it took the intervention of the police to avert loss of lives in the clash.

The Chief Imam speaking on the matter, said he did not know how the pandemonium broke out in the mosque.

Muhammadu-Jimoh accused his antagonists of masterminding the clash in the mosque, adding that he was the first person to be stoned by one of his antagonists in the mosque.

He noted that the free for all broke out after members of the congregation tried to resist the attack.

Recall that DAILY POST had reported that the Osun State Government had ordered the closure of Inisa Central Mosque on Tuesday May 11, 2021, over possible breakdown of law and order in the town.

The directive which was signed by, Abdulla Binuyo, the Deputy Chief of Staff to the Osun State Governor, was to avert escalation of crisis due to the inability of the Muslim community to install an acceptable Chief Imam in the town.

It also directed that all Eid prayers and congregational activities must not hold in the mosque.

The central mosque was, however, reopened on Friday July 16, 2021 following the ongoing peaceful resolution of the crisis that plagued the community.

The directive for the reopening was also conveyed in a public service announcement signed by the Governor’s Deputy Chief of Staff.

The government also directed that worshippers can now congregate at the mosque for their Juma’at and Eid prayers and that the government hoped that the community will justify the confidence reposed in it, to allow peace to continue to reign.
