Following the emergence of Dr. Iyorchia Ayu as the consensus national chairmanship candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, from the 19 northern states ahead of the party’s national convention, Governor Samuel Ortom of Benue State has expressed confidence that the former Senate President would deliver on his assignment.

DAILY POST had reported that the former Senate President who hails from Gboko in Benue State, emerged the consensus candidate of the party on Thursday after two other contenders for the position, a former Governor of Katsina State, Ibrahim Shema and Senator Abdul Ningi were persuaded to step down.

Speaking to newsmen on Saturday in Makurdi, the State capital, Ortom said Dr. Iyorchia had all it takes to move the party forward, particularly in securing victory during the forthcoming general elections.

The Governor equally expressed his conviction that the PDP’s convention slated between October 30th and 31st would be hitch free and successful due to Dr. Ayu’s pedigree, experience and ability to lead the people.

He maintained his position that political parties be allowed to determine the mode of primaries, adding that such move could deepen internal democracy and eliminate bickering among party stakeholders.
