Good morning! Here is today’s summary from Nigerian Newspapers:

1. The Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) has asked government officials in President Muhammadu Buhari’s administration to withdraw their children from foreign universities and enroll them in Nigeria. ASUU President, Prof. Emmanuel Osodeke, gave this charge in Abuja at the reconvened meeting with the federal Government, being chaired by the Minister of Labour and Employment.

2. Former Senate President, Iyorchia Ayu on Thursday, emerged as the consensus chairmanship candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP). Senator Iyorchia emerged as the consensus candidate after a marathon meeting of the Northern Caucus of the PDP yesterday.

3. The House of Representatives has summoned the CBN Governor, Godwin Emefiele, the Minister of Finance, Zainab Ahmed and the Comptroller General of Customs, Hameed Ali over the customs modernisation project. The officials are to appear before the committees on customs, finance and banking and currency, who have been mandated to carry out an investigation into the E-Customs project.

4. The House of Representatives, on Thursday, passed a bill seeking to establish a South-East, South-West, North Central Development Commission. All the six geopolitical zones will now have development commissions, as the Niger Delta Development Commission already exists for the oil-producing states in the South-South and some in the South-East and South-West.

5. The Inspector General of Police, IGP, Usman Alkali Baba, has given directive that 34,587 police personnel as well as three Police Helicopters to be mobilised to Anambra State ahead of the forthcoming gubernatorial election so as to guarantee a hitch-free exercise. The IGP made this known on Thursday at the Force Headquarters, Abuja.

6. Over 40 bandits have been gunned down in the North West, according to the military authorities. Brig.-Gen. Benard Onyeuko, Acting Director, Defence Media Operation, who disclosed this, said troops carried out operations in forests within Sokoto and Kaduna States.

7. The Governing Council of the University of Ibadan has named Prof. Kayode Adebowale, the new substantive Vice Chancellor of the 73-year-old university. Adebowale, a professor of Chemistry and the current Deputy Vice Chancellor, administration was announced on Thursday by the Governing Council.

8. Nigerian Communications Commission’s (NCC) readiness to begin full deployment and implementation of 5G network in the country is at 97 percent status, Executive Vice Chairman of NCC, Prof. Umar Garba Danbatta, has said. Danbatta re-affirmed the status of the Commission’s 5G technology deployment in a statement on Thursday.

9. The Federal Government has announced plans to create mass vaccination sites in Nigerian Universities, other higher institutions of learning and religious centres. The development was disclosed by the Executive Director of the National Primary Healthcare Development Agency, Faisal Shuai during a press briefing in Abuja on Thursday.

10. The Pan-Niger Delta Forum, PANDEF, led by the South South leader, Chief Edwin Clark, Thursday cautioned politicians from the North, seeking to run for the presidency in 2023 to wait till 2031 to ensure national harmony and peace. This was contained in a statement signed yesterday by its National Publicity Secretary, Hon. Ken Robinson.
