1. The Federal Government has declared Tuesday, October 19, 2021, as public holiday to mark this year’s Eid-ul-Mawlid celebration in commemoration of the birth of the Holy Prophet Muhammad. Minister of Interior, Ogbeni Rauf Aregbesola, who made this declaration on behalf of the Federal Government, congratulated all Muslim faithful both at home and in the Diaspora for witnessing this year’s occasion.
2. Nigeria is spending $300 million on barite importation every year, according to the Minister of Mines and Steel Development, Mr Olamilekan Adegbite. Adegbite made the disclosure this while receiving the National Integrated Mineral Exploration Project (NIMEP) preliminary report on Friday in Abuja.

5. The Federal Government, yesterday said travellers arriving in Nigeria from other countries must present a negative COVID-19 PCR test result conducted not more than 72 hours before boarding. Chairman of the Presidential Steering Committee and Secretary to Government of the Federation, Boss Mustapha stated this in a statement on Friday.
6. The serving overseer of the Citadel Global Community Church (CGCC) (formerly Latter Rain Assembly), Pastor Tunde Bakare, has said that what Nigeria needs at present is a President who is most competent to drive the country to the Eldorado and not agitation for power rotation. He said this on Friday while fielding questions from State House reporters after a private visit to President Muhammadu Buhari at the Presidential Villa, Abuja.
7. The UK has urged Nigeria to increase increase Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) in non-oil sectors in the post-COVID era. The Prime Minister’s Trade Envoy to Nigeria, Helen Grant gave the advice during the 6th bi-annual sitting of the United Kingdom-Nigeria Economic Development Forum (EDF) held virtually with Nigeria’s Minister of Industry Trade and Investment, Mr. Adeniyi Adebayo on Friday.
8. The pan-Yoruba socio-cultural group, Afenifere has faulted presidential aide Femi Adesina for comparing his boss Muhammadu Buhari to Obafemi Awolowo and Nnamdi Azikiwe. National Publicity Secretary of Afenifere, Jare Ajayi, described the comparison as “mischievous and mistaken” in a statement on Friday.
9. The Enugu State government has emphasised the need for residents of the state to adhere strictly to safety measures that will help in checkmating the outbreak of fire as the dry season approaches. The state government made the call during the fire safety training workshop for officials of the Neighbourhood Watch groups, Forest Guard, President Generals (PGs) of Town Unions and other relevant stakeholders in Enugu South Local Government Area.
10. Governor Mai Mala Buni of Yobe, has approved a minor cabinet reshuffle and announced the creation of a new Ministry of Wealth Creation, Empowerment and Employment Generation. This is contained in a statement signed by the Secretary to the State Government (SSG), Alhaji Baba Wali, on Friday in Damaturu.
