Good morning! Here is today’s summary from Nigerian Newspapers:

1. Five more students of Bethel Baptist School in Chikun Local Government Area of Kaduna State have been released. Rev Israel Adelani Akanji, President, Nigerian Baptist Convention, confirmed the release of the students on Friday night.

2. Gunmen suspected to be members of the outlawed Yan Sakai, a vigilance group in Sokoto State, have killed 11 persons, including an Imam, at Mamande village in Gwadabawa local government of Sokoto State. The Chairman of Gwadabawa local government, Aminu Aya, confirmed the attack.

3. The Minister of Finance, Budget and National Planning, Dr. Zainab Ahmed, yesterday, said lack of adequate revenue to finance both human and capital infrastructure should be the major worry of Nigeria, not the current debt it owes. Ahmed made the remarks at the Public presentation and Breakdown of the Highlights of the 2022 Appropriation Bill to justify the current level of the federal government borrowing to finance the deficit of the budget.

4. At least, three people have been killed while 15 houses, including the palace of the traditional ruler of Aborshi Izombe Community in Oguta Local Government Area of Imo State, have been razed.

5. Former President, Olusegun Obasanjo, on Friday, declared that his faith in a better Nigeria remains unshakable. Obasanjo insisted that, the country would not be destroyed by the myriads of challenges confronting it. He disclosed this during the opening of Abeokuta Window on America held at the Olusegun Obasanjo Presidential Library Abeokuta, the Ogun state capital.

6. The SouthWest Agenda 2023 group has said that the National Leader of the All Progressives Congress, Bola Tinubu, already have 12 million votes in the bag ahead of the 2023 presidential election. The chairman of the pro-Tinubu group, Senator Adedayo Adeyeye, made this known on Friday during an interview.

7. President Muhammadu Buhari has assented to the Agricultural Research Council of Nigeria (Amendment) Bill 2021 to boost agricultural activities in the country. Malam Garba Shehu, the Senior Special Assistant to the President on Media and Publicity, confirmed this in a statement on Friday in Abuja.

8. Muhammad Nami, the Chairman of the Federal Inland Revenue Service (FIRS), has said that only 41 million pay taxes in Nigeria out of the over 200 million population in the country. Nami made the disclosure at the ‘Public Presentation and Breakdown of the Highlights of the 2022 Appropriation Bill’ in Abuja on Friday.

9. The Federal Government, yesterday received 501,600 doses of AstraZeneca COVID-19 vaccines from the COVAX facility. The donation from the Government of France was received by the National Primary Health Care Development Agency (NPHCDA) on Friday.

10. The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) on Friday arraigned Mr Embelakpo Apere and his wife, Beauty, before a Federal High Court sitting in Yenagoa. They were arraigned for money laundering allegedly carried out in 2015.
