There was mild drama at the popular Ilesa roundabout Friday as traders at the Atakunmosa central market, Ilesa relocated to the heart of the town to display their wares with erring traders who have been displaying theirs indiscriminately at the roundabout and causing obstruction to free flow of traffic to and fro the market area.

The protesting traders who prevented free flow of traffic in the area blamed their action on the alleged insensitivity and lack of political will on the part of state and local governments to vacate the erring traders who had turned the roundabout to a mini market instead of making use of their shops within the market.

Speaking with this medium, the Chairman, Atakunmosa Market Men and Women Association, Babatunde Obembe lamented that the market executives had made frantic efforts to make the Ilesa West local government see reason for the traders causing nuisance at the roundabout to vacate but to no avail.

He also stated that efforts of the Owa Obokun of Ijesaland, Oba Gabriel Adekunle Aromolaran, the Ijesa elites and other personalities to restore sanity to the area was allegedly scuttled by the lack of political will on the part of the local government executives.

Reacting, a member of the Ilesa West local government caretaker executive committee who did not want his name in print described the protest as civilised but countered the claim of some of the protesting traders that the state government abandoned the rebuilding of the burnt stalls within the market.

He affirmed that the construction of new stalls in the central market by the government had reached 24 percent, adding that the first phase will be commissioned soon.

Efforts to get across to the chairman of Ilesa West local government proved abortive as he was not picking calls.
