The People’s Democratic Party (PDP) in Ogun State has asked Governor Dapo Abiodun to immediately fast track the resumption of the newly recruited casual teachers in public primary and secondary schools in the State

This, the party said would be to save the Ogun education sector from imminent collapse.

The State Chairman of PDP, Sikirulahi Ogundele, in a statement on Tuesday, expressed worry over the continuous delay in the resumption of the newly recruited 5,000 teachers under the Ogun Teaching Experience Acquisition Scheme, otherwise know as OgunTEACh.

DAILY POST recalls that the Abiodun government announced the recruitment of 5,000 casual teachers in March 2021.

The recruited teachers would work as interns for a period of two years, receiving stipends from the State Government.

As a result of the recruitment of the casual teachers, the government had cancelled the initial recruitment of 1,500 permanent teachers, blaming paucity of funds.

However, since the completion of the recruitment exercise, the casual teachers are yet to be deployed to schools.

Reacting, the party described as worrisome, the failure of the state government to allow the new teachers to resume duties in public primary and secondary schools in the state, three weeks after the commencement of the 2021/2022 academic sessions, under the guise of redistribution of teachers in the state.

“PDP is seriously concerned that the Prince Dapo Abiodun’s administration that claimed to have recruited new 5,000 teachers for vacancies in public primary and secondary schools is still delaying their resumption more than three months after the conclusion of the final recruitment process on June 10, 2021,” Ogundele said.

The PDP leader charged Abiodun to ensure the deployment of the said teachers to reduce the workload on teachers in government schools across Ogun.

“The PDP is therefore asking the governor to do the needful now, by making sure the teachers are fully engaged in classrooms to reduce the stress of the existing teachers in the system who are being overstretched as a result of the increasing workload,” it was requested.
