Many communities in Ota, Iju and and Owode Yewa axis of Ogun State have been thrown into darkness following a heavy rainstorm that wreaked havoc in Ado-Odo/Ota and Yewa South Local Government Areas of the State.
DAILY POST learnt that the affected communities, over the weekend, were greeted with heavy rainstorm, which pulled down many electricity poles.
Apart from collapsed structures, some houses had their roofs ‘blown away’ by the storm, even as roads were flooded.
Since Saturday, residents of the affected areas have been battling with power outage, which they fear may not end anytime soon.
Recounting their ordeal, a resident of Iyesi, who simply identified herself as Abefe, told our correspondent that the power outage was making life more difficult for them, appealing to the Ibadan Electricity Distribution Company (IBEDC) to act fast.
“Life without power supply has been very tough. We don’t know when this will end. We can’t even charge our phones, let alone pump water. It is is affecting everybody, including artisans. We want the IBEDC to wade into the matter and get it rectified immediately.
Meanwhile, the power distribution company has appealed to the affected customers over the inconveniences caused by the power outage.
The IBEDC in a statement on Monday said its technical team was working to ensure power supply was restored in the over 30 affected communities.
The statement reads: “Dear Esteemed Customer, Due to the broken poles occasioned by the heavy rainstorm at Ota, customers in the following communities: Igbere Igbojo ACDC, Wasinmi, Onipanu, Oloko Oladipupo, Ajumose ADCD, Onibuku, Idiagbon Road, Iju, Baba Ode, Mesan, Osuke, Egan, Ijagba, Iyesi Central CDC and Ajose Mupin CDC, Ajowa, Unity, Ige Daramola Ifeloju, Villiant, Godswill and Love CDA, Oja Ota, Papa Aro, Oruba, Orente, Isorosi, Igbeyinadun, Atuwara and Ewupe Ijaliye, Ilaro Road, Elekute, Idi Ota in Owode Yewa and environs are experiencing power outage.
“Our technical team is working to ensure power supply is restored. We Sincerely apologize for the inconveniences.”
