The Medical and Health Workers Union of Nigeria (MHWUN) has called on the Bauchi State government to fully implement the Consolidated Salary Structure for medical and health workers in the payroll of the state.
The call was made by the national president of the union, Comrade Biobelomeye Joy Josaya, on Wednesday during the North-East zonal meeting of the union held in Bauchi.
Josaya, who was represented by the national treasurer of the union, Comrade Auwal Kyawa, said medical and health workers needed to be motivated to do their best in healthcare delivery considering the essential services they render in the society.
Also speaking, the state chairman MHWUN, Comrade Dauda Shuaibu, explained that the meeting was an avenue for members to interact with government officials as part of steps to improve industrial harmony and cordial relationship between the union and the state government.
He said that government and labour should meet regularly with a view to getting opinions and views of MHWUN members on how to ensure effective health care delivery.
Shuaibu decried how state auditors tampered with negotiated allowances of health workers without consultation or recourse to a roundtable discussion.
In his remarks, the state Head of Civil Service, Alhaji Yahuza Adamu Haruna, informed that the Bauchi State government gave priority to the health sector and assured that his office would work towards the implementation of the consolidated salary structure for medical and health workers.
