Ekiti State Governor, Dr Kayode Fayemi has said that the return of schools to their original owners by his administration has started yielding desired results by way of healthy competition among old students who are now making impact in their schools.

Dr Fayemi stated this on Saturday at Christ School, Ado Ekiti during the commissioning of the renovated Archive/Museum building by the Class of 1967/71 in commemoration of their 50th year of their graduation from the School. He called on old students to always give back to their alma-mater in order to ensure continuity of development in the school.

While commending the set for the wonderful work they are doing to elevate the school, especially fixing a project that binds all students together, the Governor assured them that he would rally support for them to ensure that they complete all they set their minds to do for the school.

Commissioning the project in the presence of the Speaker of Ekiti State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Funminiyi Afuye, Secretary to the State Government, Mr Biodun Oyebanji and former Deputy Governor of Ekiti State, Prof. Modupe Adelabu, Dr Fayemi also charged both old and current students of the school to ensure that they are not disconnected from the tradition that binds them together and which had made Christ School a citadel of learning for ages.

“And now that we have returned the school back to its original owner, the way old students are really competing healthily to pull back to the school is something I find most remarkable and my set is also involved in the competition as we have tarred the two roads in the boys and girls sections and I think the set after us did the old sick bay and now you are doing this. If we all pull back little by little, we would not only rekindle what this place used to be, we would have a brand new school we would be proud to send our children back to.

“One thing binds us, it is the tradition that this school has, the tradition of excellence, tradition of God-fearing and the tradition of discipline in everything that we did while we were here and that is why you have not forgotten your connection to Christ School.

“So, what you are doing is worthy of emulation. I am sure other sets will hear about it and they would find a way to put back to the school. I mean we must consider the current principal of the school to be particularly lucky to be experiencing this rebirth, this renewal of Christ School as it used to be.”

Earlier in his welcome address, the Chairman, Planning Committee, Dr Charles Akinola noted that the building was the heartbeat of Christ School as the archive was modelled in an effort to preserve, re-enact and showcase the rich history of the school.

Dr Akinola assured the governor that immediately after the commissioning, the Union set would kick-start the second phase of the project which would include equipping the archive with archival materials, construction of the quadrangle complex including the adjoining classrooms.

He called on all alumni to continue to support the school to enable it achieve all its lofty ideas in conducive and technologically friendly environment.
