Ralf Rangnick says he had met and shared a bottle of wine with Manchester United legendary ex-manager, Sir Alex Ferguson.
According to the German, he is ‘very much looking’ forward to meeting the former United boss again after two previous meetings.
The 63-year-old will lead United for the first time on Sunday against Crystal Palace.
The German explained that he first met with the United icon when his Schalke 04 side were paired with the Red Devils in the Champions League semi-finals during the 2010-11 season.
Ferguson and his United side secured a 2-0 win away in Germany before an emphatic 4-1 score line at Old Trafford sent them into the final.
Rangnick said Ferguson invited him back to his office for a drink after the contest.
“We spoke after the second leg here. He invited me into his office at Old Trafford in the stadium,” Rangnick told MUTV.
“He enjoyed the glass of wine more than I did because we had no chance whatsoever in that game.
“We were missing four or five important first 11 players at the time.
“The mere fact that we qualified for the semi-finals with this team against Inter – we beat Inter 5-2 away and 2-1 at home – nobody had expected that at the time. That was the first meeting, the first time I met Sir Alex.
“We met again in 2015 at an event of the Kicker sports magazine. We had dinner together and I’m very much looking forward to meeting him in the next couple of weeks.”
