New Manchester United interim manager, Ralf Rangnick, has admitted his players won’t become ‘pressing monsters’ overnight.
The 63-year-old takes charge of his first game on Sunday when the Red Devils welcome Crystal Palace in the Premier League.
Rangnick, who is renowned as the ‘godfather of gegenpressing’, says it will take a while before the squad adapts to his demands.
He said his style of football is not “a slow waltz” and is close to what Jurgen Klopp plays with his Liverpool side.
Rangnick warned [players like Cristiano Ronaldo, Luke Shaw, Edinson Cavani and Harry Maguire that they might not fit into Rangnick’s intense pressing style.
However, the German has said he would give the players enough time to adapt.
“I have to take them and accept where they currently are.
“They are experienced and smart enough to know that. I cannot turn the players we have into the pressing monsters.
“[However], I want them to be within two, three or four weeks.
“My football is definitely not a slow waltz! I am not that far apart from Jurgen Klopp in terms of our ideas about a style of football. That’s no secret,” Rangnick told reporters.
