Good morning! Here is today’s summary from Nigerian Newspapers:

1. Femi Fani-Kayode, an All Progressives Congress (APC) chieftain, has been arrested by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC). He was arrested at a Federal High Court in Ikoyi, Lagos, and moved to a nearby EFCC office.

2. A Federal High Court, Abuja, on Tuesday, declared that the banishment of deposed Emir, Muhammadu Sanusi II from Kano State was unlawful and unconstitutional. Justice Anwuli Chikere, in a judgment, held that the Emirate Council Law, 2019, used by the state government in banishing Sanusi was in conflict with the 1999 Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, as amended.

3. President Muhammadu Buhari has written a letter to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), requesting advice over the Electoral Act Amendment Bill 2021. The letter addressed to INEC Chairman, Prof. Mahmoud Yakubu, sought comments on the controversial sole adoption of direct primary option for parties to produce candidates for elections ahead of 2023 general elections.

4. An Abuja High Court has nullified the congresses of the Governor Abdullahi Ganduje’s faction of the All Progressive Congress (APC). In his ruling, Justice Hamza Muazu upheld the congresses conducted by the Senator Ibrahim Shekarau-led faction of the party.

5. Popular skit Maker and comedian, Debo Adebayo known as Mr. Macaroni, and rapper, Folarin Falana, known as Falz, have declined the invitation of the Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu for a peace rally as part of the wound healing process in the aftermath of the #EndSARS panel report.

6. Governor Babagana Zulum of Borno State has ruled out the prosecution of repentant Boko Haram fighters. While presenting the 2022 budget at the State Assembly, Zulum said insurgents will not be encouraged to surrender if repentant insurgents are tried in court.

7. The Director General, National Youth Service Corps (NYSC), Brig. General Shaibu Ibrahim, has said the federal government’s rule of presentation of evidence of COVID-19 vaccination by civil servants for gaining access to public offices may be applied to corps members. Ibrahim said this at Okada, Edo State, during the swearing-in ceremony of 1554 Batch “C” stream II corps members.

8. In the wake of the recent discovery of a new variant of COVID-19, Omicron, the Federal Government said it is highly on the alert, warning Nigerians against complacency. Chairman of the Presidential Steering Committee, PSC, on COVID-19 and Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Mr Boss Mustapha disclosed this Monday in Abuja at a briefing.

9. Ayodeji Balogun, talented Nigerian singer and Grammy-award winner, better known as Wizkid has won the Apple music African artist of the year. Apple proclaimed him as the 2021 African artist of the year on Tuesday.

10. The Lagos State Government has rejected the resolution of the Judicial Panel of Inquiry on Restitution for Victims of SARS Related Abuses and Other Matters which had revealed that no fewer than nine persons lost their lives when armed soldiers stormed the Lekki toll gate to disperse EndSARS protesters on October 20, 2020.
