The sizeable problem of Nigerian hospitals has always been worrying. This time, a student of the Federal University of Agriculture, Abeokuta (FUNAAB) has died because of a worrying lack of facilities at the Federal Medical Centre (FMC), Abeokuta.
The boy’s name is Olaniyi Ashimi and he died because the hospital lacks basic facilities oxygen and x-ray machine. The events have been narrated by the two Twitter users. Queen Vianey Omolara who tweets @molaradgreat and one @sammiee_oj95.
Queen Vianey tweets that,
“There is a kind of pain of grief when someone’s death could have been avoided. That is exactly the case of a final year student of Funaab, Olaniyi Ashimi who met his untimely death due to no oxygen. An accident occurred on 7th of December while students were coming from conference in ibadan. They were rushed to FMC. I’d chronicle this thread with hard facts.
“From what I gathered, there were no doctors on duty to attend to the victims when they were rushed in. Students doctors were the ones that attended to him and by the time they realized Niyi had internal bleeding, it was too late. How could he survive when there was no oxygen.”
She then proceeded to seek help from influencers to make the matter public.
The suspect, from Abeokuta, Ogun State, who is a member of Eiye Confraternity, said her role was to keep arms for the cult group’s members whenever they are going for an operation.
Abiola said she was introduced to the gang by one Sadiq, a leader of their group, who usually brought the pictures of the victims they were to eliminate.
Abiola said,
“I was initiated to Eiye Confraternity through a brother called Sadiq. I met him at Ilasamaja immediately I came to Lagos. I was looking for job when I met him and he told me to join the group where I will be making a living without stress.”
According to her, Sadiq was a leader of Eiye Confraternity in llasamaja area who trained her on how to use guns to kill people.
She further revealed that they normally disguised themselves while going for operations, with women wearing hijabs and men dressing in ‘jalabias’ form to avoid suspicion.
She added that she was paid N10,000 while the men got N20,000 each after every operation.
According to CP Edgal, Abiola confessed to having personally killed four people and that she was under oath.
He said that on July 13, based on a credible source that rival cult groups were fighting in Alafia area of Mushin, detectives from Federal Special Anti-Robbery Squad (FSARS) swiftly mobilized to the scene and arrested one Sadiq Oyewunmi and Ihioma Emeka.
“They were subsequently searched during which two live cartridges and two locally made revolver pistols with ammunition were recovered from them.
“During an investigation, the suspects confessed to being members of a secret cult group known as Eiye Confraternity. Oyewunmi actually confessed that during their cult activities, his brother, named Waheed Oyewunmi, was shot dead by the rival cult group led by Emeka Ihioma whom, he alleged, pulled the trigger of the gun that killed his brother.”
Barely two weeks after a tanker loaded with 33,000 litres of Premium Motor Spirit popularly known as petrol fell at Owode-Iyana Ilogbo axis along Lagos-Abeokuta Expressway, another tanker also loaded with the same litres of petrol fell on the road early this morning at Singer Area, Sango-Ota.
The tanker travelling outside Sango-Ota fell at a failed section of the road and crushed a white Hyundai delivery van, which was by its side.
The content of the tanker spilled on the road and drainage channels around the area, forcing vehicles to be diverted to the opposite lane, which led to a gridlock.
The ill-fated tanker fell at a section directly in front of a Conoil filling station. But the timely arrival of security and traffic agencies to the scene save what would been a disaster, as okada riders and street urchins had besieged the scene with various sizes of kegs and other containers, ready to scoop petrol.
But policemen, personnel of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, Ogun State Traffic Compliance and Enforcement Corps and the Federal Road Safety Corps, were on ground and they kept the intruders at bay.
The Public Relations Officer of TRACE, Babatunde Akinbiyi, told our correspondent on the telephone that the incident occurred between 5.30am and 6am.
He said, “The tanker fell this morning between 5:30 am and 6 am but the area had been cordoned off to avoid any form of disaster. Apart from TRACE, the Police, Federal Road Safety Corps and firefighters are on ground at the scene, to prevent people from coming to scoop petrol, which is quite dangerous.
“Efforts are being made to remove the tanker and the Hyundai van from the scene.”
