Shortly after receiving his certificate of return, Dr Abdullahi Umar Ganduje announced that a key focus of the government in the coming administration would be to make sure that Kano State becomes an attractive destination for investment which will improve human capacity.
The governor-elect admitted that since Agriculture is already the mainstay of the people of the state, it becomes pertinent to encourage investments which will increase outputs and unlock pervasive economic growth.
“Our government cannot do this alone. We will also unveil extensive plans and incentives for partners and private investors to come build the businesses in Kano. If you want to setup innovative businesses or educational institutions, Kano is waiting to welcome you.”
Ganduje’s speech was heavily inclined towards education, inclusiveness and a sustainable future for the state and promises that the confidence vested in him by virtue of his re-election would not be let down.
Kano State Government has disbursed N99 million to 6,600 women under its empowerment programme as start up capital to enable them establish their chosen businesses for self-reliance.
Governor Abdullahi Ganduje disclosed this on Sunday in Kano during the flag-off of the empowerment programme at the Government House, Kano.
He explained that the beneficiaries were selected from the 44 local government areas of the state.
The governor said that the sum of N99 million would be disbursed to the beneficiaries and each of them will collect N15,000 to start business.
He further said that the gesture was part of the state governments efforts to empower women to enable them become self-reliant and contribute to the economic growth and development of the state.
According to him, it is also to empower the women to contribute meaningfully to the economic growth of their respective families and communities.
“We are doing this in compliance with President Muhammadu Buhari’s spirit of human development. We believe that, any step taken by our dear President, deserves to be followed at any given time,” he said.
Earlier, the commissioner for local government and chieftaincy affairs, Alhaji Murtala Sule-Garo commended the governor for his efforts in empowering women and youths in the state.
He urged the beneficiaries to use the funds judiciously in order to become self-reliant.
The Federal Government of Nigeria approved the establishment of Skyline University, Kano at its Federal Executive Council meeting on Wednesday, May 9, 2018.
Barely a month after the Federal Government approved the establishment, the National University Commission has a provisional license to Skyline University.
The Executive Secretary of NUC, Prof. Abubakar Adamu Rasheed while presenting the license to the university representatives described the event as a memorable one.
However, the approval of Skyline University in Kano state now brings the total number of private universities in the country to 75.

1. Skyline University College was established under the patronage of H.H. Sheikh Dr Sultan Bin Mohammed Al Qassimi, member of the UAE Supreme Council and the Ruler of Sharjah in 1990.
2. The university in the United Arab Emirate was established with the purpose of training human resources and fulfill the educational needs of industries like Aviation, Hospitality, Travel & Tourism, Information Systems, Marketing, Business Management, and Finance.
3. However, according to Kamal Puri, the university proprietor, the Nigerian branch of the institution promises to give its students the highest standard of learning especially in the areas of science and technology.

A Kano Senior Magistrates’ Court on Monday sentenced a 20-year-old student, Sultan Bello to 36 months imprisonment for impersonating the Emir of Kano, Alhaji Muhammadu Sanusi II.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the convict who resides at Ja’oji New Court Road Quarters, Kano, is being tried on a three-count charge of impersonation, cheating and defamation of character.
The convict had pleaded guilty to the charges and begged for leniency.
The Senior Magistrate, Hassan Ahmad, sentenced the convict to one year imprisonment or pay a fine of N30, 000 for impersonation.
Ahmad also sentenced the convict to another year imprisonment or pay a fine of N30,000 for cheating, and 12 more months in prison with option to pay a fine of N30,000 for defamation of character.
The Judge also ordered the convict to make arrangement with the six nominal complainants on how he would pay them back the sum of N1.85 million he dubiously collected from them.
Earlier, the Prosecutor, Insp. Haziel Ledapwa, had told the court that the accused committed the offences on Feb. 27.
He said that the convict operated an Instagram page and dubiously posted himself as the Emir of Kano.
“Bello also demanded N1.4 million from one Barka Sani, N150,000 from Sadiq Saflan, N50,000 from Sadiq Sani, N50,000 from Aisha Ahmad, N50,000 from Surajo Zakari and N150,000 from Yahaya, totalling N1.85 million.”
Ledapwa said that the convict collected the money on the pretext that a Hausa film actress, Zubaida Mu’azu, had composed a song for him as the Emir of Kano.
He requested the complainants to pay the said amount into the actress’ First Bank account number 3049986447.
The prosecutor said that the offences contravene Sections 132, 322 and 392 of the penal code.
A team of safety and security auditors from the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria and the Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA) have commenced work geared at preparing four of Nigeria’s international airports sited in Enugu, Port Harcourt, Kaduna, and Kano ready for international certifications, says Managing Director/CEO of FAAN, Mr. Saleh Dunoma.
Dunoma, who addressed aviation reporters in Lagos yesterday, also announced that all ongoing remodeling work at the Lagos and Abuja airports would be completed by June 2018.
“We had to change the completion dates (initially fixed for 2016) because of issues pertaining to dollar exchange rate with contractors because when the projects were awarded the dollar exchanged for N160 but as at today it goes for over N300 per $1. The approval process for the variations of the contract ended up being sop lengthy, but Port Harcourt Airport is about 80 per cent completed, while Abuja and Lagos are almost done. By the middle of this year we should complete these projects,” he added.
Dunoma said the said safety and security processes, infrastructure and conditions at the Enugu, Port Harcourt, Kano, and Kaduna international airports were being evaluated by the auditors from NCAA and FAAN with the view to getting them align with international standards prior to their certification.
Dunoma said the certification of the four airports became necessary following the successful certification of the Lagos and Abuja airports by the NCAA and the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO). None of Niegria’s airports operated with any international certification until the Lagos and Abuja airports were certified in 2017. Dunoma said the plan was to get all airports in the country certified in the years ahead.
He also said plans have reached advanced stage to procure and install mobile Closed Circuit Television (CCTV) cameras at the airside of all airports in the country.
Dunoma said that the mobile CCTV cameras would cover a distance of seven kilometers and could sight even long distances at night.
According to him, with the procurement of the mobile cameras and improvement on perimeter fencing patrol, the era of incursions into the airside of airports by unwanted persons (like the recent invasion of the Akure airport runway by heard of cows) would be eliminated.
Dunoma also debunked allegations that runways managed by the agency were faulty and could have been responsible for the accident involving a Dana Air flight recently at the Port Harcourt Airport.
“One of the features of runways design is to ensure effective drainage on the sides so that water does not collect at the centres and that’s how our runways are,” he said.
“So we don’t have issues with flooding on our runways because our runways are designed in such a way that water is properly drained,” he added.
On the indebtedness of airlines and other concessionaires in the sector, Dunoma said FAAN was reconciling the debts with its clients at regional level and would continue to do this until the debts are reduced to the barest minimum, but observed that aviation industry worldwide allows credit.
Abdullahi Ganduje, Kano State Governor, said his administration has spent N208 million in empowerment of 5,200 tea sellers in the state. The announcement was made on Saturday during an empowerment programme at the Government House, Kano.
Ganduje said that the beneficiaries were selected from 484 wards in the 44 local government areas of the state.
He said that the gesture was to help in improving beneficiaries with means of livelihood and that of their defendants.
“Our government attaches so much importance to empowerment programme because at the end, the beneficiaries will be self-reliant, thereby improving the economic capacity of the state,” he said.
The governor gave each of the beneficiaries N40,000 worth of empowerment packages – beverages, noodles, pasta, margarine, eggs and cooking oil – to improve their businesses.
Ganduje also urged the beneficiaries to always keep their business environment clean.
He then advised the tea sellers to shun illicit substances and other related crimes.
The state’s Commissioner for Local Government, Murtala Sulengaro, said that the programme was designed to improve their standard of living.
He commended the governor for his foresight in empowering youths in the state.
Ali Sani, who spoke on behalf of the beneficiaries, thanked the governor for the gesture and promised to use the items judiciously.
KADUNA – The Kano state governor, Dr Abdullahi Ganduje yesterday the state government has spent over N200 million to train over two hundred indigenes of the state to acquire skills as Mechanics, Panel Beaters and welders at the Peugeot Automobile or Nigeria Training Centre.
Dr Ganduje who made the disclosure in Kaduna Wednesday when he visited the trainees amin Kaduna to assess their performance said the initiative was to reduce the level of unemployment in the state and to provide a skilled manpower in modern mechanics and mechatronics.
The governor who was represented by his commissioner for Information, Mallam Garbage Mohammed said that an earlier batch of 50 trainees who had graduated from the training have been provided working tools and are gainfully self-employed as mechanics, panel beaters and welders in the state.
According to him, when his administration took over in 2015,
“we realized that we had quite a number of youths who were not employed. Even those who had gone through normal education were not employed. We had a number of graduates, even those with higher qualification who were unemployed.
The governor said there was need for us to come up with strategies that will ensure that we train youths to empower them, give them capital co that they can be self employed.
We decided to approach PAN Training Centre for the Trining of our youths within one year. We graduated 72 last year and at the end of the training programmes we gave tools worth N12million that was distributed to all the graduands and we empowered them with N50,000 each to enable them go back to their various local government to get a small place to operate from”.
He said from the post graduation monitoring unit, it was reported that more than 90% of the graduands of the first batch are fully self employed and are earning decent living.
He said out of the present crop of 150 trainees, one quarter of them are women as a way of encouraging women to be self employed and self reliant.
The governor said apart from paying for the training cost of the trainees, the state government also provided accommodation as well as of ending for them. He said the state government intends to increase the number of intakes from the present 150 to 500 trainees next year.
Asked how the trainees were selected, the governor said those who have had any form of formal education were giving priorities because of the natural advantage that they have.
In his remarks, the Director General of the PAN Training centre, Elizabeth Emordi commended the Kano state government for the initiatives and urged other States to emulate the Kano state initiative.
