Former Cross River state governor and presidential aspirant under the platform of Social Democratic Party, Mr. Donald Duke said he dumped the People’s Democratic Party PDP for the Social Democratic Party SDP because the foundation of the PDP was torn apart.
“I know you will ask this question, why did you leave a party like PDP which has structures nationwide and go to smaller party?
“My answer is simple, I am a builder. I prefer to take a house on a solid foundation and build on it and not the one that has an earthquake with a foundation that is torn apart.
“And you say I should stay there and patch it and put a roof over my head. You know that the umbrella is leaking.”
Duke, who claimed to be a builder promised to traverse the length and breadth of the country to convince Nigerians to key into the ideologies of the SDP.

The presidential aspirant urged party faithfuls to embark on a systematic approach in the quest to convince Nigerians to vote in candidates of the SDP to govern the country in 2019.

Duke charged his supporters to embark on the aggressive recruitment of new members into the party via several social media platforms like WhatsApp, Facebook, Twitter and Instagram so as to increase the number of Nigerians who can vote candidates of the SDP into power next year.

Iyiola Omisore, a former Deputy Governor of Osun State, has announced his defection from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to Social Democratic Party (SDP).

Mr Omisore, who announced his defection in a statement made available to journalists in Osogbo on Sunday, said he intended to contest the September 22 governorship election on the platform of SDP.

He said his mission was to rescue the state from what he described as years of misrule.

According to him, the PDP in Osun is in disarray and likely to remain in prolonged political captivity over the next four years.

The statement reads partly,
“engaging and working with like-minded leadership, we have sought for an alternative platform that will assures both credible and legitimacy that will rescue Osun state from its current reckless misrule.
“Our quest for an alternative political platform is basically in pursuit of a credible political structure that would guarantee that our people enjoy the benefits of accountable leadership at the state level from now.
“Notwithstanding my enormous contributions over the past years or so to building the PDP, after very deep thought and the widest consultations with my God, my family, my supporters in and outside Osun state,
“On the platform of the SDP, I shall with the support of my supporters, followers, and the electorate of the state, seek the nomination to contest for, and by His grace, be elected as the Executive Governor of Osun state on September 22, 2018”.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that Mr Omisore was Osun Deputy Governor on the platform of Alliance for Democracy (AD) between 1999 and 2003.

He was also elected to the Senate on the platform of PDP in 2003 to represent Osun East Senatorial District.
