The Federal Government on Monday released a list of 69 ongoing road and bridge projects in the South-East to debunk allegation of infrastructure neglect by some governors from the zone.
The 69 projects which included the rehabilitation of the existing Niger Bridge as well as the construction of the 2nd Niger Bridge, cost over N680 billion
In a statement issued in Abuja, the Minister of Information and Culture, Alhaji Lai Mohammed said the 69 roads and bridges spread across the five states in the South-east, were in different stages of completion.
The minister said though the contracts for many of the roads were awarded before the advent of the administration, they were either poorly funded or not funded at all, hence work on the roads had lingered.
He said the projects would have remained abandoned but for the funding sourced by the present administration from budgetary allocations, the Sukuk Bond and the Presidential Infrastructure Development Fund
According to Mohammed, the government is also looking into the possibility of using a part of the recovered looted money to fund the development of infrastructure across the country.
The governors had alleged infrastructure neglect of the zone by the Federal Government, through the Director-General of South-East Governors Forum, Prof. Simon Otuanya.
Otuanya made the allegation when he presented a monitoring report on the performance of the 2017 federal capital budget in the South East.
The minister, recently, at a function in Ilorin responded that the allegation was “incorrect, unfair and fly in the face of available evidence’’.
He promised to publish the full list of the roads and bridges, as well as give a breakdown of the total figure.
In view of the power outage currently experienced at our Agu Awka Injection Substation, which feeds Awka and other neighboring towns, the management of the South East Power Distribution Company, Enugu Electricity distribution Company (EEDC) sincerely apologize to its esteemed customers affected by this development, which is as a result of a breaker fault at the TCN Station, Awka.

5. 33KV line which takes supply from Agu Awka Injection Substation to Enugu- Ukwu Injection Substation that feeds Abagana 11KV, Nimo 11KV, Ukpo 11KV and Enugu-Ukwu 11KV Feeders.
In addition, the Enugu Agidi 2.5MVA which radiates from Enugu-Ukwu 33KV line, supplying Enugu Ukwu and 33KV line from Agu Awka Injection Substation supplying Aguleri town are also affected.
“EEDC management wishes to inform its esteemed customers in Imo State that the current loss of supply being experienced in some localities in the state was due to an ongoing maintenance work on TR2 power transformer at TCN station in Egbu near Owerri’’, he said.
Ezeh noted that the maintenance, which commenced on Jan. 18 at 1 p.m. was expected to end at 4 p.m. same day, but unfortunately, due to some unforeseen circumstances it had lingered.
“The customers affected by this development are: All customers under Orlu District; All customers under New Owerri District; All Customers under Owerri District (excluding those on Ikenegbu, Egbu and FUT 11KV Feeders),’’ he said.
According to him, we are on TCN Engineers to fix the problem within the earliest possible time and sincerely regret any inconvenience this development must have caused our esteemed customers.

Reports from Abuja say that Anayo Nweke absconded from the Public Hearing of his petition asking the Senate Committee on Ethics and Public Petitions to stop the INEC from conducting the January 13th Anambra Central Senatorial Rerun Election.
Thus, the Petition by Anayo Nweke (ADC) was adjourned sine die to next year! Case closed.
The Public Hearing was attended by the Gov Willie Obiano of Anambra State represented by his Deputy, Dr Nkem Okeke, distinguished Senators, the INEC Chairman, National Commissioners and Directors amongst others.

President Muhammadu Buhari has arrived in Ebonyi State for his 2-day working visit, and on ground to receive him were the Enugu, Abia and Ebonyi state governors as well as top security officials.
The president had earlier stopped over at the Akanu Ibiam International Airport in Enugu before proceeding to Ebonyi state.
This is the first time Buhari will be visiting the south-east since he became president.

The Federal Government has denied executing vaccination against Monkeypox in the South-Eastern or any part of Nigeria.
There were reports that some persons were in Anambra to inject children with vaccines as had allegedly been done in Bayelsa State with the hope of infecting them with the monkey pox disease.
The National Coordinator of National Centre for Disease Control, NCDC, Dr. Chikwe Ihekwazu, while appearing before the Senate Committee on Primary Health and Communicable Diseases in Abuja on Thursday, stated that the disease had no vaccine and the government was not conducting any immunisation on it, neither through civilian or military organisation.
Recall that the House of Representatives on Tuesday has ordered the Minister of Health, Prof. Isaac Adewole, to appear before it over the outbreak of Monkey Pox in the country.
President Muhammadu Buhari has reportedly sent governors in the Northern region to the South-Eastern part of the country in an effort to secure peace in the region.
According to The Cable, the team of governors will be lead by the chairman of the Northern Governors Forum, Kashim Shettima, and will include governors of Katsina, Aminu Masari; Sokoto, Aminu Tambuwal; Kebbi, Atiku Bagudu;and Kano Abdullahi Ganduje.
The president had, before leaving the country on Sunday for the UN General Assembly, met with governors Shettima, Ganduje, and Tambuwal.
The governors will meet with the South-East governors, as well as their Cross River and Rivers counterparts.
They are expected to discuss the best way to maintain peace in the region, following the activities of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB).
The South-East governors had on Friday proscribed the group, making their actions illegal.
The Inspector General of Police, IGP, Mr Ibrahim Idris, yesterday, said he has deployed additional Police Mobile Force Units to South-East states ahead of the Anambra State government election billed for November 28.
The IGP who spoke at a dialogue session he had with a coalition of Civil Society Organisation, CSOs, under the aegis of Situation Room, said he has put necessary manpower and logistics in place to secure electorate, electoral officials, observers and election materials that will be used for the Anambra poll.
According to him, “no group(s) under any guise will be allowed to disrupt or cause violence before, during and after the election.”
He said a total number of 21,084 police will be deployed for the Anambra State election, with 17,320 of them stationed within the 4,330 polling units in the state.
Whereas 1,280 of them will be deployed to 320 polling centres, the IGP disclosed that 2,484 policemen will be assigned to patrol 414 major streets in Anambra State throughout the election period.
The IGP said some parts of Anambra State were already marked as “flash/vulnerable points of concerns” that would require “extra security arrangements.”
He listed the areas as Otuocha, Onitsha, Aguleri, Nzam, Anam, Achala, Ihiala, Ozubulu, Umunze, Ekwulobia and Okpoko.
He said: “Commissioner of Police, Anambra State Police Command is under very strict instructions to ensure that he carries along the Inter-Agency Consultative Committee on Election Security, ICCES, in the deployment and implementation of security arrangements for the successful conduct of the election in the state.”
On IPOB’s threat
On threat by the IPOB to disrupt the election, the Police boss said: “More Police personnel are already on ground to prevent any untoward incident.
“The command has been directed to liaise with the community leaders such as Ohanaeze Ndigbo and the presidents-general of the various communites to prevail on their people in Anambra State not to allow their children and wards to be used to cause disruption of the election, disturbance of public peace, law and order.
“The command has been directed to also work with the PCRC, Eminent Persons Forum and the local associations to checkmate the activities of any group inimical to the peace of the land.
“The command has equally been directed to synergize with other sister security and safety agencies to ensure the smooth conduct of the election.
“Special Police Patrol of the general areas, stop and search, raiding of criminal hideouts and other crime prevention and control strategies are currently ongoing and will continue throughout the election period and beyond.”
Logistics for smooth conduct of the election
The IGP equally highlighted some of the logistics he has put in place to ensure smooth conduct of the election. He said: “The command has 80 operational vehicles.
The Force Headquarters will provide additional 300 vehicles to the command for the election. “The Force Headquarters will provide three Police helicopters for surveillance and aerial patrol throughout the period of the election.
Gunboats for the Police Marine to man the waterways at Onitsha, Aguleri and Nzam have been provided. Additional riot equipment will be provided by the Force Headquarters to the command.
“Furthermore, for the purpose of a successful election, the following additional strategies have been put in place: The riverine areas will be manned by the Marine Police and Nigerian Navy.
“All exit/entry points including border areas between Anambra State/Imo, Abia, Enugu and Delta States will be manned by the Police Mobile Force, PMF, personnel and Nigerian Army. Vehicular movement will be restricted as may be directed by INEC.”
Earlier in his opening remarks, coordinator of the CSOs and Executive Director of Policy and Legal Advocacy Centre, PLAC, Mr. Clement Nwankwo, said there was need for the Police to give proper orientation to officers deployed on election duties to avoid rights abuses and overzealousness.
While he urged the IPOB to respect right of citizens in Anambra State to exercise their civic responsibility, Nwankwo cautioned that saturating the state with police could intimidate and scare the electorate away from the poll.
