Nigeria is Ebola free, WHO confirms. World Health Organization's, Cory Couillard, from WHO African Region, has told AFP in an email that the "laboratory investigation for EVD (Ebola Virus Disease) and Lassa fever turned out negative".
WHO confirmed a patient died at the University of Calabar Teaching Hospital on Wednesday but not because of Ebola.

Local newspaper had reported the man died of Ebola raising suspicion that the deadly disease was back in the country. He was reported locally as being a suspected Ebola case, although his symptoms were not specified and his travel history was unknown, it added.

The Nigerian government had successfully combated Ebola virus after the disease was brought to the country by a Liberian man who died of the virus in Lagos. The effort of government prevented a serious outbreak resulting in a successful curtailing of the disease.

On Wednesday, WHO confirmed that there has been no new cases of Ebola in Nigeria after the virus was contained by the government. Sierra Leone and Guinea have recorded the number of death cases since the outbreak of the disease in Africa. So far, over 11,000 people have died of the deadly disease.
