PARIS - France's iconic landmark, the Eiffel Tower was lit up in the
colours of the French flag yesterday evening for the first time since the
horrific attacks in Paris. The tourist attraction, closed to the public since Friday's
terrorist attacks which resulted in the death of at least 129 people, returned
to service last night.
The operators had previously turned the lights off at the
famous tower in honour of all the victims of the shocking attack. Security
concerns continue to focus around the tower following false reports of gunfire
being heard near the site.
The words 'fluctuat nec mergitur' - the city's Latin motto,
meaning 'tossed but not sunk' - were also beamed onto a section of the tower.
