Lionel Messi, nominated for the ninth time, described his place on the shortlist as “amazing” as rival Cristiano Ronaldo conceded that the Argentine was most likely to win the 2015 prize.
“It is not surprising to me that Leo might have better chance than me, but I am here for a reason, the vote from coaches and captains.
“It would not be a surprise to me if Leo or Neymar win as on a collective level they won many trophies. But all three of us are here on our own merits.”
Real Madrid Star Cristiano Ronaldo admitted that he wished he had the left foot of eternal rival Lionel Messi as relations between the two superstars looked better than ever ahead of the Ballon d’Or.
The pair were joined by fellow nominee Neymar for a press conference ahead of tonight’s gala in Zurich, where Messi is expected to win the big prize. And Ronaldo took the opportunity to lavish rare praise upon the man who has pipped him to the world player of the year award four times.
“What would I want from Messi? His left foot is really good, I’d like to have that,” before Neymar interjected “I’d like to have both!”
