The Nigerian Senate is set to investigate the , NNPC, over allegation of fuel subsidy money not accounted for to the tune of N5.1 trillion collected between 2006 and 2015. This was raised yesterday (Monday), during plenary, as Senator Dino Melaye, APC, Kogi, drew the attention of the Senate to what he described as huge amount allegedly collected by NNPC, but was not accounted for following the records available.

Melaye, who called for a holistic investigation into the corporation for alleged malfeasance of the nation’s common patrimony, however, pleaded with the Senate that he would come up with a substantive motion on the matter the next day (today) According to him, the time to probe the alleged monumental corruption in NNPC is now.

He added that some oil companies in connivance with Pipeline and Product Marketing Company, PPMC, allegedly stole litres of refined products from government to the tune of N2 billion monthly. Melaye, who noted that corruption was responsible for high cost of diesel in the country, asked the Senate to investigate how AGO and PMS mysteriously disappeared from farm tanks and the proceeds end in private pockets.

In his remarks, Senate President Bukola Saraki, who noted that the matter bothered strongly on the fight against corruption, however, granted Melaye’s request to come forward with a substantive motion today.
