The gunman who killed 58 people and injured a further 515 in Las Vegas after opening fire on a crowd had 10 guns in his hotel room, according to police.
The shooter, identified as 64-year-old white male Stephen Paddock, fired hundreds of shots into a crowd at the Route 91 Harvest Festival from a hotel room window, in what is now the deadliest mass shooting in US history.
Police said he killed himself before they entered his room on the 32nd floor of the Mandalay Bay Hotel.
US president Donald Trump described the shooting as ‘an act of pure evil’ and said that the country was ‘joined together today in sadness, shock and grief.’
Witnesses said there were about four or five minutes of gunshots, starting at 10.08pm.
Police had launched a search for Marilou Danley, 62, who lived with Paddock at a retirement community 80 miles from Las Vegas, but later confirmed she is no longer a ‘person of interest’ in the investigation.
Police now believe she had no involvement in the shooting as she was out of the country. Paddock used her ID when he checked into the hotel last Thursday, 28 September.
An off-duty police officer is among the dead, said Joseph Lombardo, sheriff of the Las Vegas Metropolitan police department.
