The Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) has deployed 280 additional closed-circuit television (CCTV) cameras at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport Abuja (NAIA) to enhance surveillance at the airport.
According to Mr Sani Mahmud, the Regional Manager, Northern Operation, Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN), the additional surveillance cameras were not only to rid the airport of miscreants but also nip cases of corruption in the bud.
Mr. Mahmud spoke at the sidelines of a one-day sensitisation campaign by FAAN’s Anti-Corruption and Transparency Unit (ACTU) in partnership with the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC).
“We have existing CCTV cameras but we are installing new ones to cover those areas we previously didn’t cover.
“About 90 percent of the project has been done. As at last week, the company has deployed 280 additional cameras.
“They have finished installation at the international terminal; they are now at the domestic terminal,” he said.
Speaking on the awareness campaign he said it was part of the strategies put in place by FAAN to awaken the consciousness of its staff on the need to shun corruption while carrying out their official duties.
The airport
“being the gateway to the nation, we deem it necessary to continue sensitizing our stakeholders at the airport to continue to fight corruption” he noted
