Songs sharing the same name is hardly an uncommon phenomenon. With so many rappers sharing common interests of amassing riches, taking and/or selling drugs, engaging in endless sex, and general pride-fuelled aggression, the usual favorites tend to get recycled and repurposed. Generally, repetitive song titles tend to limit themselves to a single word. Every so often, the two-word variant slips through. Harmless, to be sure. Simply an observation.

Today marked the arrival of a high profile duet, as Nicki Minaj and Lil Wayne dropped off “Rich Sex.” Set to be the third official single of Queen, the raunchy meeting of the minds finds both longtime friends and collaborators discussing the bar set by an impressive net worth.

“I like money more than dick, n****a, that's a fact,” admits Nicki, ever industrious. “You think pussy's everything? Well, let's have a chat.” In the track’s hook, Nicki makes no secret of her priorities, going so far as to ban all blue collar carnal desires from her circle.

Lyrically, the song is relatively shallow, though both Nicki and Wayne exude both charisma and conviction in their beliefs. As for Weezy, he seems to enjoy indulging in his most depraved, Scrooge McDuck inspired fantasies, rapping “Let's fuck on the money 'fore we count that, that's some rich shit, pussy smell like money when I'm down her, that some Nic shit.” Hopefully the scent in question is metaphorical, and he is not in fact referencing to the coppery odor of forgotten pennies.

Now, recall that Nicki Minaj and Future announced a joint tour today, appropriately styled as NickiHndrxx. Clearly, the pair is familiar with each other’s work, having collaborated on HNDRXX bonus track “You Da Baddest.” Interestingly enough, the tour-mates share something else in common. Future also has a song called “Rich Sex,” off his acclaimed DS2 album.

The track, produced by the deadly combination of Metro Boomin, Frank Dukes & Southside, went on to emerge as one of DS2’s most iconic singles. The video, which currently sits at over 49 million views, features Nicki’s homegirl Blac Chyna in a prominent role:

Though both songs do cover similar thematic ground, Future’s offering is far more melodic, with a more intimate message that Nicki’s braggadocious take. That’s not to say Future isn’t keeping it lavish; he makes it abundantly clear that the AP stays on before, during, and after. Not the mention, the stylistic addition of a $ in the title sets the pair apart even further. One thing is certain.

The song has managed to retain a steady lifespan, three years after its original release. Do you think Nicki & Wayne’s collaboration will endure the same longevity? Perhaps an accompanying video will add a few millions to the view count.

True, the connection is a little bit tenuous. Yet in the name of good fun, take a second to vote for your favorite take on “Rich Sex.” Both NickiHndrxx artists tried their ice-laden hand, but which one are you bumping when push come to shove?
