1. The Chief Justice of Nigeria, CJN, Justice Ibrahim Tanko Muhammad, has tested positive for COVID-19.
Justice Ibrahim Saulawa, a member of the Supreme Court, made this known at the unveiling of the national headquarters of the Muslim Lawyers’ Association of Nigeria (MULAN) on Tuesday in Abuja.
2. The World Bank has finally approved Nigeria’s request for a $1.5 billion loan.
World Bank made this known in a statement on Tuesday, noting that the loan is aimed to boost Nigeria’s efforts to reduce poverty.
3. Former Bayelsa State Governor, Seriake Dickson was on Tuesday, sworn in as Senator representing Bayelsa West Senatorial District.
Also Professor Nora Ladi Daduu’t representing Plateau South Senatorial district was sworn in. Similarly, Cleopas Moses of Bayelsa Central and Adetokunbo Mukhail Abiru representing Lagos East Senatorial District were sworn in.
4. Nigerian artists, Omah Lay and Tems have been released by the Ugandan police.
Omah Lay and Tems regained their freedom, following a ruling by Okumu Jude Muwone, Chief Magistrate of Makindye.
5. The Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) has given telecommunications operators in the country two weeks to block all SIM cards that are not registered with the National Identity Numbers (NIN).
It warned that any telecom operators that failed to comply with the directive risked outright withdrawal of its licence or heavy penalty.
6. The Federal Government has said it has now taken a back seat in the issue of petrol pricing in the country.
Minister of Labour and Employment, Senator Chris Ngige, while inaugurating the bipartite plus technical committee on Premium Motor Spirit, PMS, pricing framework on Monday, said that the government did not fix the new PMS pump price that took off in the country on Monday.
7. The Kano State governor, Abdullahi Ganduje, has ordered the closure of all public and private schools in the State.
In a terse statement by the State commissioner for Education, Sanusi Kiru, the State government did not give reasons for the decision.
8. The Speaker of Kano State House of Assembly, Abdulaziz Gafasa, and two other principal officers of the legislative body have resigned from their positions.
Mr Gafasa conveyed his decision through a letter to the Clerk of the House, dated December 14.
9. The Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) has recorded a drastic increase in the number of new COVID-19 infections in Nigeria.
NCDC on its Twitter page confirmed 758 new cases, bringing the total number of cases in the country to 74,132.
10. A member of the House of Representatives, Danjuma Shiddi (APGA, Taraba) has defected to the All Progressives Congress, APC.
Announcing his defection on Tuesday in Abuja, the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Rep Femi Gbajabiamila, said Shiddi attributed his defection to division in his former party.
