Here is today’s summary from Nigerian Newspapers

1. President Muhammadu Buhari will today address Nigerians.

President Buhari is expected to deliver a New Year address to Nigerians around 7am.

2. Former Senate President, Bukola Saraki, has urged Nigerian leaders and citizens to suppress 2023 talks, post-Buhari politics and concentrate on fixing Nigeria.

Saraki, in his New Year message, congratulated Nigerians, at home and abroad, who survived the various difficulties experienced in 2020.

3. The Benue State government has kicked against the proposed installation of one Bala Bello Muhammad as Sarduana Otukpo, widely circulated on the social media.

The State’s Deputy Governor, Engr. Benson Abounu, said he reached out to the Leader of Hausa Community Otukpo, Alhaji Mamuda and informed him that there is nothing like Sardauna Otukpo in the Benue State Chieftaincy Laws of 2016.

4. The sudden illness of Justice Ahmed Ramat Mohammed stalled Thursday’s hearing in the alleged certificate forgery suit instituted against Edo State Governor, Godwin Obaseki.

However, Obaseki’s lead counsel, Ken Mozia (SAN), while speaking with reporters after adjournment, displayed the original Bachelor of Arts Degree Certificate of the University of Ibadan (UI), awarded in 1979.

5. The Osun State Government has postponed the resumption of schools in the State until further notice.

The Ministry of Education in a statement signed by the Coordinating Director, C.K Olaniyan, said it was due to the precautions against COVID-19, adding that the ministry, in conjunction with the Ministry of Health, will come up with the realistic date of new resumption for schools.

6. The building that was to host the maiden edition of Kaduna sex party was demolished on Thursday by officials of the Kaduna State Urban Planning Development Agency, KASUPDA.

Nuhu Garba, KASUPDA Public Relations Officer, PRO, said that the building, which is located at Sabon Tasha, a suburb of Kaduna metropolis, was completely demolished in the afternoon.

7. The 29 traditional rulers in Ikeduru Local Government Area of Imo State, Thursday, embarked on a protest, demanding that the kidnapped Auxiliary Bishop of Owerri Catholic Archdiocese, Chikwe Moses be released from the hands of his captors unhurt.

His Royal Highness, Eze Ambassador Marcel Okwadikesinachi, who is the Chairman of Ikeduru Council of Traditional Rulers, while speaking to journalists during a libation exercise undertaken by the monarchs, expressed regret that what is obtainable in politics is gradually creeping into the Christendom.

8. Mr. Umar Muri, the Commissioner of Police in Kaduna State, has said that the command has arrested 29 suspected kidnappers and 43 others, who committed various crimes from October 31 to December 31.

Muri, who disclosed this at a press briefing in Kaduna on Thursday, attributed the success to the unwavering determination of gallant police personnel.

9. One person has died in a multiple accident that occurred in Okija, Ihiala Local Government Area of Anambra State.

Report said the accident involved four vehicles conveying a total of 25 persons, and that the accident happened when one of the vehicles involved violated a route.

10. Omoyele Sowore, rights activist and former presidential aspirant, has been reportedly arrested in Abuja.

Sowore and other activists, according to Sahara Reporters, were carrying out a peaceful procession to mark the New Year when they were arrested by Nigerian security forces in Abuja.
