The Oluwo of Iwoland, Oba Abdulrosheed Adewale Akanbi, has appealed to Nigerians to assist the Nigeria Police to ensure effective policing.
While tasking the government to fund the Nigeria Police in salary increment, logistics procurement and the enlistment of more police officers, the monarch advised the citizen to stop intimidating officers with attacks.
Oba Abdulrosheed described the various attacks on police officers and their formations as invitation to anarchy, adding that no facet of a nation’s strength is guaranteed in an unfriendly environment with security operatives.

Oluwo made the call while receiving the Assistant Inspector General of Police, Zone XI Osogbo, Olasupo Babatunde Ajani in his palace.
The monarch noted that the frequent harassments and intimidations of security personnel could jeopardize the economic stability in the country and appealed to Nigerians to have a rethink on the actions against security officers.
In his words, “The spate of attacks on security personnel and their formation is condemnable. It is a pointer to anarchy when civilians muster to attack the police and destroy their stations.
“It is incredible the police cannot freely boast of their job. Many police personnel are afraid to wear their uniform. They have been reduced to nothing. The time to right the wrong is now. Government should not continue to watch Nigeria move to a state of anarchy.

“I task the government to consider recruiting more youths into security jobs. The salary of security operatives must also be increased.
“Security of lives and property is the primary responsibility of the government. This, at all cost, must be strengthened by the traditional institution. The police are hereby assured of my support always,” he concluded.
