The Association of Local Governments of Nigeria, ALGON, on Monday night met behind closed doors in Enugu, the Coal City State.
DAILY POST reports that the meeting was held at the ALGON State Secretariat in Enugu.
The ALGON National Executive Committee and Board of Trustees, BoT, members, were led by the National President, Hon. Alabi Kolade David.
Enugu State Chairman of the Association Hon Solomon Onah, who received the NEC/BOT members at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, Enugu told newsmen that crucial matters affecting the Local Governments in Nigeria would be discussed at the meeting.
The meeting, which is coming at a time the country is battling with security issues, is also expected to explore possible ways of handling security, especially at the local government level.
The meeting comes as local government workers, the National Union of Local Government Employees, NULGE, continues to push for full autonomy of the third tier of Government.
Governor Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi of Enugu State is one of the governors that have pledged to implement full autonomy of the local government, the judiciary as well as the legislative arms of government.
A communiqué is being expected at the end of the NULGE meeting.
