The Northeast Organizing Secretary of the Youth Council of Nigeria, (NYCN), Ambassador Adamu Yunusa has warned youth in the region to desist from drug abuse as well as other social vices capable of truncating their future.
Yunusa gave the warning in a statement on Thursday in Damaturu as the world marks the 2021 edition of International Youth Day.
He said youth are the important set of people that enhance democracy and governance in any society.
“Never ruin your future with the consumption and smoking of things that will jeopardize your ambition”, he advised.
The Organizing Secretary also called on youth in the region to embrace one another for peace and prosperity, irrespective of tribal, religious, and political inclinations. “The future awaits not all the youth, but productive ones among them”.
Yunusa urged the youth to avoid misuse of the social media platform for irrelevant criticisms and posts on issues capable of inciting violence among the people.
“Shun social media violence instead use the digital platform wisely in a productive and effective way that will earn you legal benefits, especially in this trying time of insecurity and economic challenges”, he urged.
The theme of International Youth Day 2021 is, “Transforming Food Systems: Youth Innovation for Human and Planetary Health”.
On this day, UN Secretary General, Antonio Guterres said, “young people are on the front lines of the struggle to build a better future for all. The COVID-19 pandemic has highlighted the dire need for the kind of transformational change they seek – and young people must be full partners in that effort.”
