Good morning! Here is today’s summary from Nigerian Newspapers:

1. The Inspector-General of Police, IGP Usman Alkali Baba, yesterday, appointed DCP Tunji Disu as the new Head of the Police Intelligence Response Team (IRT). Frank Mba, Force spokesman, announced the appointment of Disu in a statement on Monday.

2. A youth leader of PDP in Adamawa, Ikamu Hamidu Kato, has been sentenced to two years in prison for insulting President Muhammadu Buhari and the SGF, Boss Mustapha. A Chief Magistrate Court on Monday sentenced Kato, a PDP youth leader in Hong council area to prison for use of abusive words. He was given an option of N50,000 fine.

3. At least 18 people, including a policeman, have been killed in attacks across five communities in Chawai chiefdom in Kauru local government area of Kaduna State. The Police Public Relations Officer, Kaduna Command, ASP Muhammed Jalige confirmed the attack.

4. Professor Attahiru Jega, a former Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), on Monday, asked Nigerians not to vote for either APC or PDP for failing the country. Jega said both parties should not be given another chance because they have disappointed Nigerians.

5. The Police in Benue State on Monday killed three suspected kidnappers after a gun battle to rescue a commissioner’s wife, Mrs Ann Unenge, who was abducted four days ago. Governor Samuel Ortom, who led members of his cabinet to the police headquarters where the dead bodies of the suspects were displayed, hailed the Inspector General of Police and his men in Benue State for the feat.

6. The Federal High Court sitting in Abuja on Monday, adjourned the suit brought by the 12 detained aides of Sunday Adeyemo, popularly known as Sunday Igboho, to August 4.

7. The police have arrested the alleged financier of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) and Eastern Security Network (ESN), Boniface Okeke, from Obor Autonomous Community in Orlu Council Area of Imo State. Parading the suspect and 25 other suspected members of IPOB, including seven women arrested in a hotel located in Orlu, at the Command’s Headquarters, Owerri, Commissioner of Police, Abutu Yaro said the suspects were being held in connection with terrorism and attacks on security agencies.

8. The Tertiary Education Fund (TETFund) on Monday said about N300 billion has been set aside in its budget this year for the training of academic staff across 226 tertiary institutions. Chairman, Board of Trustees of TETFund, Alhaji Kashim Ibrahim-Imam, disclosed this in Asaba at an audit and accounts reconciliatory meeting with the benefiting institutions in Delta State.

9. The Central Bank of Nigeria CBN on Monday assured anxious bank customers of sufficient foreign exchange to meet their needs such as basic travel allowance, PTA, medical and tuition. Speaking with business correspondents in Abuja on Monday, the Bank’s Acting Director in charge of Corporate Communications, Osita Nwanisobi dismissed speculations that it planned to convert the foreign exchange in domiciliary accounts of customers into naira.

10. The National Judicial Institute (NJI) has appointed the Chief Judge of the Federal Capital Territory(FCT), Justice Salisu Garba as the Administrator of the National Judicial Institute. A statement by the Senior Special Assistant on Media to the Chief Justice of Nigeria, Ahuraka Isah on Monday, explained that his appointment is for a period of three years.
