The Chairman of the Local Government congress committee for Bauchi State from the national headquarters of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Honourable Jibrin Samuel, has revealed the reason the party adopted consensus in choosing new leaders at the local government level.
Speaking at the state secretariat of the opposition party in Bauchi State, Samuel informed that the consensus option was adopted with a view to reducing tension and preventing intruders from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) from hijacking and sabotaging the exercise.
According to the local governments congress committee chairman, as of the time the congresses were being conducted in the state on Saturday, “there is no updated list of registered members of the party at present”.
While submitting that the consensus option is legitimate, Samuel declared that politics was all about consensus building, adding, however, that APC would not impose any leaders on party members.
He applauded party members in the state for the peaceful conduct of the last ward congresses, submitting that if the tempo is maintained, APC would triumph in the 2023 elections in Bauchi State.
He assured members that no one would be allowed to shortchange others within the party, saying that his committee would be fair to all in order to avoid a situation whereby those aggrieved would not work against the interest of the party before and after the 2023 elections in the State.
