1. Governor of Benue State, Samuel Ortom on Friday, instituted a N60 billion suit against Minister of Special Duties and Inter Governmental Affairs, Senator George Akume at the Makurdi High Court. Governor Ortom is seeking N50 billion as general damages for libel and N10 billion as exemplary and aggravated damages.
2. The Court of Appeal in Abuja on Friday declared Valentine Ozigbo as the validly nominated candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) for the November 6 governorship election in Anambra State. A three-member panel, presided over by the President of the Court of Appeal, Justice Monica Dongban-Mensem, unanimously upheld the two appeals filed by Ozigbo and the PDP (CA/AW/223/2021 and CA/AW/234/2021).
3. Some suspected bandits have again attacked Nahuche district in Bungudu Local Government Area of Zamfara State in the wee hours of Friday. The Zamfara State Police Public Relations Officer, SP Shehu Muhammad confirmed the incident.
4. The Department of State Services yesterday evening, released two more aides of Yoruba Nation agitator Sunday Adeyemo also known as Sunday Igboho. The secret police released Tajudeen Irinloye and Uthman Adelabu on Friday after over 60 days.
5. A father, Abdullahi Benda, and his 23-year-old son, Jibrin Abdullahi Benda, were on Friday, abducted at Yangoji village in Kwali Area council of Abuja. The spokesman of the FCT police command, ASP Daniel Y. Ndiparya, confirmed the kidnap incident, saying the command was making efforts to ensure the kidnapped victims are rescued alive.
6. The Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) Kano Zone is set to institute legal action against the Department of State Service (DSS) over an alleged assault of one of its members. Chairman of the Ahmadu Bello University (ABU) chapter of the union, Prof. Rabiu Nasiru, made the declaration at a news conference he addressed on Friday in Zaria, Kaduna State.
7. The Federal Road Safety Corps yesterday, said drivers who make or receive calls behind the wheels with AirPods, EarPods or any form of wired or wireless earphones and handsfree mode risk six months in jail. FRSC Corps Public Education Officer, Bisi Kazeem, in an interview on Friday, said driving requires total concentration and road users should not take any risk on their lives.
8. A United States district judge, William M Ray II, Thursday sentenced Bamidele Muraina, a 34-year-old Nigerian hacker to five years and ten months in prison. Muraina was sentenced for hacking into multiple tax preparation and accounting firms located in several states, including a Brunswick, Georgia-based accounting firm, between January 29, 2018, and April 2020.
9. Governor Nyesom Wike of Rivers State yesterday, said the demolition of Oginiba abattoir in the Trans Amadi area of Port Harcourt was not targeted at ethnic or religious group. Wike who spoke when he inspected the ongoing demolition of the market on Friday, said anyone giving religious or ethnic coloration to the demolition does not mean well for the state and the country.
10. Schools in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) will commence first term for the 2021/2022 academic session on September 19, 2021. A statement by the acting director, Department of Quality Assurance of the Education Secretariat of the FCT Administration showed that while boarders will resume Sunday, September 19, day students shall resume Monday, September 20.
