The family of the kidnapped chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Bauchi State, Alhaji Uba Boris, has expressed grave concerns over his whereabouts 12 weeks after his abduction, saying that his prolonged absence has impacted negatively on them.

Boris, a one-time Senior Special Adviser (SSA) on Youth Mobilization under former governor, Isa Yuguda, and who also served as the Director of Yuguda Vocational Centre, was kidnapped in Bauchi on 7th July, 2021.

Though there were conflicting narratives concerning how he was abducted, the politician was said to have been abducted by his assailants at about 8pm at the CBN roundabout on the Murtala Muhammed way in Bauchi metropolis.

Speaking with journalists, Boris’ senior wife, Sa’adatu, informed that the family had not heard from his abductors since their breadwinner was kidnapped.

This, she said, made members of the family to be in palpable fear, adding that they never knew the motive and those behind the abduction, which she said had brought untold hardship on them.

“It is exactly 12 weeks of my husband abduction and up till today, there was no report of his whereabouts and all his phone numbers have been switched off.

“We have made all our efforts to find him but it was not successful. We visited the Bauchi State Commissioner of Police and he told us that the police were still investigating the case and whenever they had information about him, the command would contact us,” Sa’adatu said.

According to her, before her husband’s abduction by unknown persons, there was an attempt on his life two weeks earlier, informing that Boris reported the incident to the police that time but nothing was done about it.

“Before his abduction, a woman leader assembled some women and insisted that he (Boris) should come and meet them but he initially declined because political activities have not kicked off.

“He asked the woman to bring them to his office but she insisted that he should come to her house at 1000 Housing Estate and he later agreed to follow her.

“On his way to the house, they were attacked by two tinted vehicles and he narrowly escape from them. He reported the case to the State CID. I remember when he narrated the incident to us, he was not suspecting the woman of staging the attack or any setup against him then.

“We did not think that the incident was so serious because we thought it was political opponents who were trying to intimidate him but two weeks after the incident, he was kidnapped,” the politician’s wife explained.

She then said that her husband’s prolonged absence had thrown the entire family, relatives as well as his supporters into palpable fear and mourning mood.

“We are living in this house in palpable fear and distress because he has 17 children and three wives waiting for unknown misery. We are sleeping with one eye open.

“Whenever we heard any movement of a stranger knocking the door, we are always apprehensive and thinking of who is coming into the house,” she informed.

Efforts made to get the reactions of the state police command proved unsuccessful as the calls made to the telephone of the command’s Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), SP Ahmed Mohammed Wakil, did not go through.

However, a top official of the command, who pleaded not to be named because “I was not authorised to speak on this matter”, confided in DAILY POST that though the police are working on the circumstances surrounding Boris’ kidnapping, his family did not help the situation.

According to the official, despite the assurance given to the family by the State Commissioner of Police, Sylvester Abiodun Alabi, the family attempted to give the kidnappers money, thus compromising police investigations.
