Chelsea defender, Antonio Rudiger has slammed Ballon d’Or organizers for not including his fellow teammate, Edouard Mendy, in their 30-man shortlist released last week.
Rudiger demanded an explanation for Mendy’s Ballon d’Or snub after his man of the match display against Brentford in Saturday’s Premier League 1-0 win.
Recall that the 30-man shortlist for this year’s Ballon d’Or was announced some few days ago, with five Chelsea players included.
Jorginho, N’Golo Kante, Cesar Azpilicueta, Romelu Lukaku and Mason Mount all made the cut.
Mendy enjoyed a stunning debut season in the English Premier League and capped it off by winning the UEFA Champions League, as Chelsea defeated Manchester City 1-0 in the final.
The Senegal goalkeeper also won the UEFA Super Cup with Thomas Tuchel’s side.
However, Rudiger believes Mendy deserved to be recognized for his impressive performance for Chelsea.
“Someone explain why he’s not nominated for the Ballon d’Or,” Rudiger wrote on Twitter.
“What a performance… EDOUARD MENDY.”
