Former Liverpool star, Danny Murphy, has urged Man United to sack their manager following the Red Devils’ Premier League derby 2-0 defeat to Manchester United on Saturday at Old Trafford.
Murphy said if Man United want to compete with the likes of Man City, Liverpool and Chelsea for the Premier League title, they need to let Solskjaer leave Old Trafford and bring in a new manager.
Solskjaer’s side was defeated at home against Man City, following an own goal from Eric Bailly and a strike from Bernardo Silva.
Speaking on BBC’s Match of the Day, Murphy said: “If they [Man United] want to compete with the big boys now – Man City, Liverpool and Chelsea – they need to change the manager.”
Meanwhile, Solskjaer, who replaced Jose Mourinho at Old Trafford three years ago, admitted he was very disappointed by the derby defeat.
The Norwegian also urged his players to bounce back against Watford after the international break.
“It’s very disappointing. Last week, it felt like we made a step forward, this is a big step backwards,” Solskjaer said at his post-match press conference.
“It is a way of losing that we don’t like. You want to see a better Man United than that. When you concede the first goal in an unfortunate way as early as that, it makes it difficult.”
“They pressed us really well. We have to come out against Watford like a proper, hurt animal. The international break has come at a good time for us.”
