Roy Keane has branded Manchester United captain, Harry Maguire as a ‘disgrace and an embarrassment’.
This was in reaction to the defender’s shocking celebration where he stuck it to his critics with his goal in England’s 5-0 win against Albania.
Maguire scored the opener for Three Lions on Friday night at Wembley with a powerful header early in the first half.
And after heading in the goal, the Manchester United defender, who is facing significant criticisms over his performances in recent weeks for the club – cupped his hands to the crowd and then put his fingers in his ears.
This was seen by pundits as a clear jibe at his critics, who are mostly Manchester United ex-players.
The celebration angered Keane, who has been one of Maguire’s biggest critics the former United star was livid with the defender’s actions.
“He’s put his hands to his ears like he’s shutting the critics up, but I think that’s embarrassing,” Keane said during half-time of ITV’s coverage.
“He’s been a disgrace the last few months for Man United. He thinks because he’s scored there, he’s going to shut his critics up? Embarrassing.”
