Abubakar Nuhu-Fikpo, Director-General, National Directorate of Employment (NDE) says the federal government remains committed to lifting more Nigerians out of poverty.

Nuhu-Fikpo spoke on Thursday in Owerri at the inauguration of a training on the Extended Special Public Works Programme (ESPW).

Imo NDE Coordinator, Ngozi Ihenacho, who represented him said the 540 trainees, 180 persons from three zones, earlier benefitted from the Basic Business Training.

He explained that the ESPW was an offshoot of the Public Works Programme organised to capture 774,000 nationwide.

The official said the initiative was established to address unemployment in the country.

Ihenacho hailed President Muhammadu Buhari for the “step in the right direction” to assist the lower class.

“I urge you participants to show commitment and take instructions from trainers”, NAN quoted him as saying.

“Those who perform well will have a chance of receiving grants for either start-up of new businesses or enhancement of existing ones.”

Also on Thursday, the government said in the past two months, N58 billion has been shared to Nigerians under Conditional Cash Transfer (CCT).
