Good morning! Here is today’s summary from Nigerian Newspapers:

1. Brigadier-General Dzarma Zirkusu was shot dead in an ambush by fighters of the Islamic State of West Africa Province (ISWAP) in Borno State yesterday. Four other soldiers were also killed in the incident which occurred at Bulguma, few kilometers from Askira town in Askira Uba Local Government Area.

2. President Muhammadu Buhari has expressed sadness over the death of Brigadier General Dzarma Zirkusu and other soldiers. The President, in a statement issued Saturday by his media aide, Garba Shehu, said the deceased paid the supreme sacrifice in a very rare display of gallantry as they tried to help their compatriots in the war against terrorists.

3. The Christian Association of Nigeria, CAN, has asked President Muhammadu Buhari-led Federal Government to end the series of killings and abductions in the country “without further delay”. The umbrella Christian body made the call on Saturday in a communique issued at the end of its 4th quarterly meeting in Abuja.

4. President Buhari yesterday departed Paris for Durban, South Africa, to attend the 2nd Intra-African Trade Fair (IATF) 2021 which takes place on Monday. Presidential spokesman, Femi Adesina, who confirmed the president’s trip to South Africa, said he would join other African leaders at the Official Opening Ceremony of the IATF 2021 at a special invitation by President Cyril Ramaphosa.

5. Followers of the detained Yoruba Nation agitator, Chief Sunday Adeyemo also known as Igboho yesterday, took to the street of Ibadan, the Oyo state capital, asking the federal government to push for his unconditional release.

6. The Special Adviser to Gov. Babajide Sanwo-Olu on Works and Infrastructure, Mrs Aramide Adeyoye, on Saturday called on engineers to flush out quacks in the construction industry. Adeyoye said that quacks caused building collapse that killed over 42 persons in Ikoyi recently.

7. No fewer than four mourners were early Saturday gunned down by suspected armed herdsmen who stormed a Christian wake at Mbayatyo, Mbater Council Ward of Logo Local Government Area of Benue State. The attackers also left five others with serious injuries at the said wake that was held in honour of one Mama Achin Adingi.

8. Nigeria have defeated Liberia 2-0 in a 2022 World Cup qualifying game played Saturday evening in Tangiers. Victor Osimhen and Ahmed Musa, both scored from the spot, as the Super Eagles boosted their chances of qualifying for the tournament.

9. Doctors in Nigeria have rejected a proposal by the Minister of Labour and Employment, Dr Chris Ngige, for physicians trained in Nigeria to work in the country for at least nine years before being allowed to migrate. The Medical and Dental Consultants Association of Nigeria and the Guild of Medical Directors on Saturday faulted the FG’s proposal.

10. The 2021 Global Organised Crime Index has ranked Nigeria among the top 10 criminal markets for trafficking in people, firearms, illicit cannabis and heroin trade, fauna crimes, synthetic drugs and non-renewable resource crimes.
