VIRAL GISTS

Politics & Government

Beautiful Nollywood producer Omoni Oboli has revealed one of her life’s secret that has kept her on top of her game.

The multilingual and award winning actress who recently produced a movie, Okafor’s Law has made it known that she is totally sold out for Jesus and as a result, she does not have any atom of hate, malice, envy or even bitterness in her.

Speaking about beef, strives and jealousy that has bedevilled the movie industry she said she can never be jealous of anyone’s progress or success because she has filled herself with a lot of positivity and she often prays for everyone because she wished them good.

Well, if all celebrities can have this positive mindset and stop all the beefing, jealousy and controversy, there will be a very massive change in the entertainment industry because no one, organisation or sector can thrive with these negative energies in place.

Nollywood actress, producer and director, Omoni Oboli has been granted permission to go-ahead with the cinema release of her film, Okafor’s Law by a Federal High Court sitting in Ikoyi.

Justice Ibrahim Buba gave this ruling moments ago after considering the arguments of the plaintiff (Raconteur Productions) and the defendants (Omoni Oboli, Dioni Visions Entertainment and FilmOne Distribution).

The judge, in doing this, removed the interim injunction stopping the release of the film as filed by Raconteur Productions. He said that the film can be released as planned into Nigerian cinemas tomorrow, Friday, March 31, 2017 but that the parties involved should choose a date for continuation of the hearing between April 3 and 4, 2017.

This definitely comes as good news to Omoni Oboli and her people as she had yesterday presented, through Oluwatomi Adeoye – the Project Manager of Dioni Visions, a counter-affidavit in which it was argued that an estimated five hundred million (500m) Naira which she had planned to realise would be lost if the film was not released as planned.

In her words, the Nollywood Actress and Producer said;
Good News!! Glory be to God!!!!!!!!!!! #OkaforsLaw by will finally be showing in all cinemas NATIONWIDE from tomorrow Friday the 31st of March.
"We serve a living God! Thanks for all the prayers and the love 😍😍😍"
Oboli was absent in court today, just like yesterday, and her representatives declined to make any comments after the ruling.

Jude Idada was present and the case involving him and Oboli will begin formal hearing on April 6, 2017. It will be recalled that Oboli had been accused of stealing Idada’s intellectual copyright for the controversial film, Okafor’s Law.

Raconteur Productions, the outfit that got Omoni Oboli’s Okafor’s Law premiere stopped last Friday has explained that they didn’t do what they did out of selfishness but in the interest of stopping flagrant abuse of intellectual property in the industry.

Canada-based script writer, Jude Idada, had accused the actress of stealing his work to make ‘Okafor’s Law’.

The premiere of Okafor’s Law, which was scheduled for Friday, March 23, could not hold after a court injunction was obtained by the outfit, restraining Oboli, her Dioni Visions and FilmOne from screening the film or releasing it into Nigerian cinemas.

In a bid to shed more light on what led to the embarrassing shutdown of Okafor’s Law premiere, Raconteur Productions released a statement.

Read all they said below:
'On behalf of the board of directors of Raconteur Productions, we would like to like to shed light on our case with the defendants.
‘The events of yesterday though unfortunate was our only option to prevent the ongoing abuse of our intellectual property. Several attempts were made to bring the parties to the discussion table. Three weeks ago they received a formal demand letter but chose to ignore it and instead tried to intimidate us into abandoning our case.
‘Our decision to seek legal redress is not a selfish one, the industry has been plagued with similar issues and in taking this stand, we hope that we speak for all established and aspiring creative who are struggling to get their voice heard. Victory in this will be victory for the industry and will foster a safer environment for the sharing of ideas.
‘Thank you
‘Olanrewaju Akinlabi'
Despite the forced cancellation of the premiere, the planned cocktail and after-party went ahead anyway with stars like Toyin Aimakhu, Ufuoma McDermott, Uche Jombo-Rodriguez, Annie Idibia, Ini Edo and others partying hard until very late in the night.

Nollywood actress, director and producer, Omoni Oboli has been left with no other option but to cancel the premiere of Okafor’s Law which was scheduled to hold in Lekki today. Omoni Oboli was served court injunction earlier today after a lawsuit filed by Raconteur Productions over allegations that she infringed on writer, Jude Idada‘s intellectual property.

According to Idada, Oboli ‘stole’ his work for the controversial Okafor’s Law without giving him due credit or remuneration. It can be confirmed that this night’s premiere has been called off amidst tears from Oboli.

This also means that, except for unforeseen happenings, the film originally scheduled for cinemas on March 31 will have to wait a little longer.

Okafor's Law Private Screening

In an emotional speech in which she announced the cancellation of the event, the producer said that she owns the story and script. ‘My story, my script, my film!’ a visibly shaken Oboli said.

Nollywood actress, Omoni Oboli has been dragged to court over allegations that she ‘stole’ the script for her upcoming film project, Okafor’s Law.

In September 2016, our source exclusively published a 45-minute long interview with Canada-based writer, Jude Idada who alleged that the actress infringed on his intellectual copyright by running with his script for the film.

Idada alleged that Oboli took the work he had done regarding Okafor’s Law and developed it without giving him due credit despite the fact that the only thing she had at the time she called him into the project was the name Okafor’s Law.

During this period and till date, the producer/director maintained her silence despite several attempts by TNS to reach her and her representatives.

Oboli ignored all parties and fixed the premiere date for the movie for today, March 24, 2017 and the premiere, March

However, the matter has been taken to court and an injunction has been sought to prohibit the producer from releasing the film as planned next week.

The order was served by Hon. Justice I. N. Buba of the Federal High Court, Ikoyi – Lagos with the plaintiff being Raconteur Productions.

This implies that if the premiere goes on disregarding the order of the court, Oboli and her people will be guilty of contempt of court. Among the who will appear as defendants to the case include Omoni Oboli, Dioni Visions while FilmOne Distribution has been served.
