According to a revealing report on BENUEPAGE, the immediate
past governor of Benue state, Gabriel Suswam was last week arrested in London
for battery charges. Metropolitan Police Domestic Violence Officers booked him
into the London detention center for several hours and a judge set a £5000 bail
bound for him which he met before being released.
He was arrested in his luxury London home after Police
received a distressed 999 call from his wife, Yemisi, the former First Lady of
Benue state. She told a dispatcher over the phone that she feared for her life
after being physically assaulted by her husband over a heated argument relating
to Gabriel's mistress, Shidoo Imo, a former administrative officer at NAFDAC.
A family source told the police that Suswam hit Yemisi
severally and inflicted injuries on her over Shidoo's overbearing influence on
Gabriel. Battery is an offence under the UK law against the Persons Act of
1861. He faces a prison term not exceeding 6 months.
British Police are prevailing on Yemisi to press charges
against her husband who is in the habit of abusing her often. If she accepts,
Gabriel risks going to jail under the UK Criminal Justice Act of 1988.
