At the recently concluded MTV MAMA Awards 2015, Nigerian artists had a field day as they cleared most of the major
awards but beyond winning awards, there were some highlights of the event that
you must not miss.
Here are some of the major highlights you should not forget:
- Davido Dedicates Award To Daughter
Davido Adeleke, AKA Davido, of HKN Gang records won the 2015
MTV Africa Music Award for ‘Best Male Act’ for the second year running. The 22-year old ‘Fans Mi’ crooner got on stage and gave a
very emotional acceptance speech.
Davido gave a shout out to his 2-months old daughter saying:
“Daddy is bringing home a toy.” This look so much like American rapper, Jay Z’s acceptance
speech at the 2014 Grammy awards when he said to his daughter, Blue Ivy, “I
want to tell Blue, look, Daddy got a gold sippy cup for you!”
Davido beats other African artistes like South African
rapper AKA, Ghanaian rapper Sarkodie, Nigeria’s very own Wizkid and Tanzania’s
Diamond to take home the award.
- Davido Announces Collaboration With Wizkid!
The 2015 MTVMAMA seems to have a lot of bridge filling as
Davido after winning the Best Male Act shared a selfie with industry rival,
Wizkid.
Not only that, he also announced that he will be
collaborating with Wizkid. The collaboration Naij gathered will be dropping
next month, August, 2015.
Davido shared a selfie with his older brother as well as
Wizkid after collecting his award.
- D’Banj Dedicates Award To Don Jazzy
One of the highlights of this award is D’Banj dedicating his
Evolution Award to his former best friend turned arch enemy, Don Jazzy.
The duo later took picture together with the award trophy.
Others artistes nominated in this category include P-Square,
2face, Asa, Fally Ipupa, Samini, Black Coffee, Anselmo Ralph, Jose Chameleone
and HHP.
- Peter of P-Square Goes Topless
After their second win at the just concluded MTVMAMA, Peter
of P-Square thought of no less way to celebrate their winning other than
pulling off his cloth.
Peter could not hide his delight at their second winning of
Artiste of the Decade to the extent that he had to pull off his top and pose for photos
with the trophy bare-chest and this gave the female fans something to talk
about.
No wonder the second half of the duo has been busy in the
gym working out seriously.
P-Square won the Best Group and the Artiste of the Decade
Awards.
- D’Banj and South Africa OAP, Bonang’s Kiss
D’banj and his rumoured South African boo Bonang Matheba
seems to have confirmed their relationship at the 2015 MAMA.
The couple arrive the venue of the award together in
coordinating outfits with the Koko Master wrapping his hand around Bonang’s
waist.
The confirmation many had been waiting for happened just
after D’Banj winning of Evolutionary award. He did something that would leave
the audience dazed. D’Banj gave his South Africa OAP beau a kiss for all to
remember to celebrate his award.
The duo have never own up to their dating as they have
always been denying it despite many tell-tale pictures of them in compromising
positions. Nigerian music stars once again maintained their dominance
over the African music scene emerging the biggest winners at the just concluded
2015 MAMA.
Nigeria won seven awards including ‘Best Male Act’, ‘Best
Female Act’, ‘Evolution Award’, ‘Best New Act’, ‘Song of the Year’,
‘Collaboration of the year’, ‘Best Group’ by Davido, Yemi Alade, D’Banj,
Patoranking, Mavins, AKA and Burna Boy, P-Square respectively.
